We're doomed. Doooooooooooooooomed!
I can't see much hope in humanity pulling together to sort out the mess it's created. There'll be a lot of finger pointing resulting in a Mexican Stand-off. Resulting in either a global nuclear war or the planet's resources running out - effectively starving the human race of energy. (Thus humanity will regress into days before electricity.)

Happy Christmas one and all, for each one is a step closer to my nightmares. :)

As a species
Yeah theres a lot of us, so natural selection clearly doesn't want as dead however I guess intelligence as a whole is declining though.
We've got to a point where natural selection no longer does anything useful. The weak are now supported by the strong, medicine has reached a point where even if you have a serious disease, you can live for just as long as everyone else. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but I think we've learned to deal with all the cards we are dealt.

I seriously think overpopulation is a larger problem than anything else at the moment though
We could always, you know, stop making babies.
Whether you were being serious or not. There is a little thing called Human Rights. You can't just turn around to people and say "You aren't allowed children". It just isn't that easy (in most parts of the world)

The majority of people are good, its just the bad ones we hear about.

Edit: Oh, you meant as a whole. Yeah, we're killing ourselves slowly and are slowly losing our sanity, a little bit at a time.
I agree with you here by the fact it tears people's hope for humanity when we hear about murders etc. Little do we all known there is just as much good in the world than there is bad. People don't tend to notice good things but we all notice the bad.

We're doomed, I dont believe in the normal apocalypse that people keep talking about , We will probably be our own demise, Damn i hate people.
There are nice people like Fat man spoon said but its not the majority to be honest,Not saying im a saint myself but at least i admit it unlike alot of people.
See you all in hell guys
Let's look at at the bright side shall wee?

[small]We won't freeze in hell, and we will be able to cook or food without any stoves![/small]
What if it freezes over? Strangely enough, that happens rather often.

Anyway, we still have a chance, I know we do. I'm still here and as long as I live there's still hope.

We've existed thus far and accomplished a lot, destroyed a lot, we've done a lot of things.

Maybe it will lead to a horrible end, maybe it won't, only time can truly tell.

I think as soon as things start to threaten the balance of power and profits, action will be taken. Whether it will be in time or not is a different question. That same desire to stop anything threatening the balance of power and profits is why we have persisted in our overpopulating, planet fucking ways for so long.

Still, planets, stars and entire galaxies die out without human interference anyway, so its not like it would be the biggest crime in the universe.

In terms of the actual species though, I dont think we had much hope to begin with. Life has always been one fucking grotesque pantomime of eating, fucking, killing, sleeping and shitting for animals. It was like that before we had delusions of grandeur, and it will be like that long after our species has crumbled to dust.

?wow, I feel so deep and philosophical now.

The fact that good music made it to number one instead of factory made, overmarketed and untalented bullshit with no meaning has given me some more hope - for UK citizens that is.

Humans will be fine. People who think that we're doomed or things are going to go tits-up tommorrow haven't learned from history very well. Humans are incredibly smart and adaptable under pressure, and have proven time and time again that they can prevail in even the most extreme circumstances. We're living in an age where knowledge and access to it is unparalleled, where standards of living have never been higher and technology has achieved miracles. There is every reason to be optimistic. Future challenges concerning climate, resources, transport and food supply will be fought and overcome, just like they have been in the past. We're living in a golden age and it's only going to get better.

I forget how awesome that video is
Agreed. I think there will be hope for humanity, despite how bad it looks now, as long as there are people who aren't afraid to say how awesome the universe can be.

That said, having influential good people doesn't preclude the possibility of things taking a sharp turn for the worse.

If we don't do anything- and being as phlegmatic as I am, I can't imagine myself doing so- yeah, we're going down the shitter.

Darwin's turning in his grave.
I believe we're starting to leave the basic definitions of survival and "fitness" as defined to us by harsh envrioments behind us, science and medicine gaining new ways of making the "weak" "strong".

Hell, the idea of medicine contradicts any notion of us as a species being straight up survivalists, we're helping others, even with little or no gain, we still help others.
Because our intelligence tells us there is something more important than the base programming in our hardware.

It is that easy, just kill anyone that disagrees.
Okay so you weren't being serious. All is well

It's true, there are more important things than survival of the fittest (... that is what you're saying, right?), I just think that the practice should still be followed.

Anyone up for human initiation? Live in woods for a year after you're so-many-years-old and then see how well you do. Anything that dwindles us down a bit.

With the way medical science is going, even if a person is "weak and stupid", they can be made "average", a "normal person", but such a future would really have to be a Fascist "for your own good" type of world, because I don't think many people would judge themselves "below average".

Of course, there is a certain strength to not everyone being the same.
Smart people and dumb people see things differently, completing different functions and creating different things.
