Absolutely not at all unless SteamOS turns out to make literally millions of dollars. In which case it may, but only if EA's absolutely sure all that manpower will guaranteed a return.

I'd imagine just porting Origin to SteamOS would just be a better option.

I doubt it. Recently one of EAs main developers (Dice) was talking about switching over to Linux just because of the variety of options it would open up for their games. Ive been thinking of switching to Linux myself because even Windows 7 has a lot of background programs running that effects my PCs prossessing power. A new OS whether it be STEAM or someone elses that gets rid of unnecessary stuff to improve performance would be nice.

That said, I dont think EA holds the experience in any development firm to start building software like an OS. I mean they cant even get their DDS working right so I have my doubts they could make a working OS. Lets also be honest, the only way origin is tolerated is because its required to run their PC games. With an OS you'll have 2 big competing choices (windows and linux) that are already working

It's not a DRM platform, and not a system closed for Steam. It's an open source gaming dedicated system, one whose creators gave the name of their online store and embedded it. It won't only run Steam games, by making it open source Valve doesn't even own it, but still it has Steam in it by default and it's name after their store for marketing and PR purposes.
There, actual discussion. And I agree.

If EA wants they can simply port Origin and their games to Linux and it'll all run on SteamOS. If they made an OriginOS it would be nothing remotely comparable to SteamOS so saying "Valve made one so EA might too" is having no idea of what SteamOS is.
SteamOS is a very unique beast; presumably it's being made out of necessity for fear that Microsoft will use their OS market share to start meddling with PC gaming. Or at least, that's the impression I get from reading Gabe Newell's comments on Win8.

Making a closed DRM OS and forcing people to install and boot it every time to run a half-dozen games would be the most stupid thing a game publisher has ever done.
Ironically, that's very close to what consoles do, only at a scale that's larger than the publisher....well, even that's questionable thinking about it, given that Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony are all big game publishers themselves.

Still, a proprietary OS made just to play games? That's console exclusivity in a nutshell.

I feel like it wouldn't really be any of these. I would only say that it would happen if SteamOS is a hit. Not likely especially if it is. I think at some point down the road Ea will get jealous, just like they did with Steam, hence why origin is in existence. So I feel like they would just try to play catch up with Valve if Steambox is successful.

Won't happen. EA has a vested interest in staying on good terms with Microsoft, thanks to the xbone. Launching a competitor to Windows would not help them stay on good terms with MS.
