It kinda seems to me that there are only 2-3 different options for smart-phones now. iPhone, and Android (sorry Blackberry, but you are dieing). Each has their own pros and cons, being perfect for some people and not for others. I really have never used a Windows phone, so I'll not make judgments on something I've never used.
Lets start simple: the iPhone.

iPhones are the most stable of the two. When you buy an iPhone, you know what you are getting. It might be outclassed in some sectors, but on the technical standpoint, it will work extremely well. Also, from a physical standpoint, Apple products, and iPods and iPhones in particular, are durable. Sure, there are screen cracks and such, but otherwise they can take a beating. Only my gameboy color has taken more punishment than my iPod nano and touch, one of which (the touch) i spent a month in Nicaragua in. Let me tell you, as long as there is no water involved, that device is not dieing.
From a software perspective, it dominates all. It has huge amounts of apps, most of which are relatively good quality. Some are even tremendous, rivaling that of a console game (Infinity Blade 2, Real Racing 2, Modern Combat 3, Galaxy on Fire 2, ect.). At this point, nothing else in this market compares. In all honesty, the iPhone/iPodtouch is now in direct competition with the 3DS and the Vita.

Androids are the most free. There is not one Android phone, so really it ranges. I heard some of them can be crap, however I have seen the absolute power the newer ones have. Its kinda a toss-up here, so I'll just throw out the hardware argument entirely. Android is a software, unlike the iPhone, it is never hardware.
Software wise, its close. It has a much more open system of doing apps. Much of them are free, and many rival the quality of iPhone apps (especially since many are the same game, just on the android). However, the Android lacks many of the most powerful and enticing games of the iPhone, relegating its gaming to a lesser status. The operating system is pretty much a copy of the iOS system, "borrowing" much of the interface. But it works very well, and still stays slick and stylish. Again, Androids can be better than iOS in every way, and worse in every way. Its all in how you use it.

So guys: Which do you prefer?

I don't have a smart phone so I guess I don't really have much say in this thread...

I honestly don't know, I'd rather use my phone for just calling (and rarely texting).

I'm 20 and I'm considered a freak by some because of this view towards mobile phones.

I have an iPhone. I quite like it. It's the only smartphone I've had, though, so it's not like I have anything to compare it to.

I'm perfectly happy with my BlackBerry, actually. I like it a lot better than my roommate's old iPhone, that's for sure. That thing was huge, unwieldy, confusing and generally just a mess.

i refuse to put up with the BS that comes with an Iphone. Said BS being Itunes, no access to the battery, if you need more memory you have to buy a new phone, and if you jailbreak it...apple will hose the phone with updates.

What all that means is it's android for me. My contract is up and I can get 50 bucks off a new phone but I'm in no rush. My current phone still works fine and there's no 4g in my area for at least another 1 1/2 years.

Android for me & I love it, then again I won't touch anything with an "i" in front of it so maybe I'm just a little biased.......

I chose Android, the Samsung Galaxy S is one year in and still looking as good as the day I got it. Also, I'm yet to find an iphone app that lets you write and compile C codes for free. Because I'm the sort of sad bastard that can at any time of day come up with an idea for a program.

I like Android, been using it for about a year and a half. But I'm sure I'd get on with most others just as well.

I have a very old non-internet mobile phone, which I still use because it still works great for actual phoning and texting. But for everything else, I have an iPod Touch 4, since it's basically just an iPhone without the 'phone' bit. Anywho, I voted for that, purely because it's the only one I have any experience with...

Nokia 3310 and I'm going to stick with it until it dies (which is not any time soon cause those phones were built to last)and then I'm going to take my other 3310.

Or smart :D

I'd rather have a Droid. Apple stuff is just over priced garbage. Though I have a stupid phone at the moment, I barely use that anyways. If I want to listen to music or dick with a couple of Apps I just use my Zune HD.

tried IOS thought it was a bit convoluted you NEED iTunes to put songs on it and you cant run Homebrew without Jailbreaking it first)
I use android now and I really like it I don,t need iTunes anymore and can upgrade my memory whenever I want.

Been using Samsung Galaxy S for half a year now and have nothing but praise for it. So that's android for me, I can't stand how the iOS binds users' hands. Besides, that crap is overpriced for no good reason.

When I got myself a smartphone, I went straight for one with Android. Apple knows what they're doing, and the fact that they design the hardware for the OS they're gonna run on it makes for a noticeable difference at some turns, but I just can't get myself to like their policy of acting like a grumpy gatekeeper for their products. It's mine. None of their business what I do with it.

But at the same time, I'm a bit annoyed at the smartphone trend, mainly for making way for the tablet trend. I often do graphical design in my spare time, and one thing I've been thinking of getting is a small touch-screen laptop for on-the-go work. But those things are still pretty uncommon as they're not something the average consumer would just buy; only people who actually need one would actually buy one. Tablets, on the other hand, are just getting more and more popular right now, so whenever I look around and stumble across something that looks like a touchscreen laptop, I soon find out that nope! It's running Android! Or Windows Mobile.

Would probably work better for me to just buy an Inkling. But those things are even harder to get a hold of right now.

I can't afford of many of the things I "need" right now.

i love my iPhone. best phone i've ever had.
after that, it's my Virgin Mobile Super-Slice. i had that thing for almost 6 years. i dropped it from my bike while riding, threw it across the room, and even swam with it by accident and the only thing that was broken on it was the alert light at the top.
my windows phone would be my second, but it power-cycled constantly.

I currently have an Iphone and I truly can't stand the thing. I only upgraded cause the old black and white screen nokia I've had for years finally got lost permanently.
I've played around with my friends android and honestly I prefer those, they just.. nicer to use.
But I made my stupid stupid choice and now I have to live with it XD

It's not on the list but I choose my old black and white phone, it had a battery that lasted months on end since I only used it for the occasional text, so I choose other I guess XD
