It kinda seems to me that there are only 2-3 different options for smart-phones now. iPhone, and Android (sorry Blackberry, but you are dieing). Each has their own pros and cons, being perfect for some people and not for others. I really have never used a Windows phone, so I'll not make judgments on something I've never used.
Lets start simple: the iPhone.
iPhones are the most stable of the two. When you buy an iPhone, you know what you are getting. It might be outclassed in some sectors, but on the technical standpoint, it will work extremely well. Also, from a physical standpoint, Apple products, and iPods and iPhones in particular, are durable. Sure, there are screen cracks and such, but otherwise they can take a beating. Only my gameboy color has taken more punishment than my iPod nano and touch, one of which (the touch) i spent a month in Nicaragua in. Let me tell you, as long as there is no water involved, that device is not dieing.
From a software perspective, it dominates all. It has huge amounts of apps, most of which are relatively good quality. Some are even tremendous, rivaling that of a console game (Infinity Blade 2, Real Racing 2, Modern Combat 3, Galaxy on Fire 2, ect.). At this point, nothing else in this market compares. In all honesty, the iPhone/iPodtouch is now in direct competition with the 3DS and the Vita.
Androids are the most free. There is not one Android phone, so really it ranges. I heard some of them can be crap, however I have seen the absolute power the newer ones have. Its kinda a toss-up here, so I'll just throw out the hardware argument entirely. Android is a software, unlike the iPhone, it is never hardware.
Software wise, its close. It has a much more open system of doing apps. Much of them are free, and many rival the quality of iPhone apps (especially since many are the same game, just on the android). However, the Android lacks many of the most powerful and enticing games of the iPhone, relegating its gaming to a lesser status. The operating system is pretty much a copy of the iOS system, "borrowing" much of the interface. But it works very well, and still stays slick and stylish. Again, Androids can be better than iOS in every way, and worse in every way. Its all in how you use it.
So guys: Which do you prefer?
