Pretty much all has already been said, but I should also mention we're a cheap and greedy bunch.
"Free" is a word we can never hear enough, same with "discount" or "cheaper". If we can find a bargain, we'll take it.
But I can't imagine a country I'd rather live in.

We are a small country, but we are still quite important to the rest of the world. I just wondered how other people see us. As a country which has a very strong economy and has been playing a special role in the European economy for many centuries or as a country full of weed smoking idiots :p?

Don't care how you reply. You can say whatever you want. Topics may vary from soccer to the current economy.
Personally, as a Brit (and as a Humon follower), I would say you guys are a country full of weed smoking crazies who are nevertheless good economists. And awesome in general. So rock on, you crazy Dutch, rock on... :D

Meh?

People think the Dutch Pennsylvanians come from you guys (they dont), so thanks for that misconception.

Other then that, I just think of the Netherlands (and Holland really) to be two countries with giant roving hills and fields and windmills popping up and a collective population of about 500 for both countries put tgoether.

Of course I know thats wrong. Just saying.

... OH! and you give Us Americans a place to go during summer cause the general concesus seems to be that between that awkward I'll shoot up my high school gang banger and the 'm fat and Lazy and cant be bothered to be considerate of anyone else cause the world revolves around me and my work times of our life, we're a bunch of know it all smart ass college students who have nothing better to do then smoke pot and drink and generally give a reason why you woulndt want Universal Healthcare (tell me you want to wait behind the Teenager who just stabbed his taint with his skateboard while your arm bleeds out, go ahead and tell me you do).

But then again I'm one of the clean Americans who could care less about pot, so that loses a lot of its glamour on me.

interesting culture but when you make legal what most other countries dont, thats all youll be known for. shame.
When staying abroad for a few weeks, people I meet assume I´m always stoned at home. When I say I´m not (and add to that, that I never am), they assume I'm the exception. "Where's that guy from anyways?" - "From the Netherlands, he's one of the few that that don't smoke weed all day"

Yeah the Netherlands are alright, I suppose. I like other countries too though (and I will probably move to another country in the future).

Doen pinguïns een helm dragen wanneer gaan skiën?
They're wooden shoes.

Also: Pinguins skiën niet. Ze hebben geen duimen en kunnen dus die kloteschoenen niet aantrekken.
skien is zowiezo voor mietjes

The only thing that comes to mind about the Netherlands is one word: "Tulips"

I must say, I don't think about the Netherlands a great deal, but when I do, I have a lot of good things to say about it. Politically, historically, architecturally, temperamentally.

I've made a small attempt at learning Nederlands, too.

Yay! I just had the feeling that I would not be welcome among the Dutch and I certainly don't want to cause trouble if I'm not wanted. So I guess it would be fine to go for a visit and go to that town made of chocolate, that is in the Netherlands right? It's something my dad told me about and it sounds awesome (I certainly won't go for weed and hookers since I'm not into that stuff).
Yay! Welcome, welcome. Also *hug*.

A town made of chocolate, though? I think i would remember if we had something like that.

You are absolutely correct.

Ok, you may not be on pot, but... maybe you should start? Because i had to reread your post three times before any of that made sense.

Im kidding... (it was only twice).

Ok , first of all, we can hardly be blamed for those people from Pennsylvania not being recognized as Germans. They should really be called the Pennsylvania Deutsch.

Also, the Netherlands and Holland are not two different countries. Holland is simply the best known and most wealthy part of our country (which is called the Netherlands). Also, FYI, people from the Netherlands who are NOT from Holland (like myself) really hate it that the rest of the world seems to consider the two synonymous. You wouldn't call a Scotsman English, would you? Never mind, its just my pet peeve.

I don't, really, and I mean that in the most respectful possible way. The Netherlands, as well as continental Europe as a whole, are so culturally distant from the United States that it's hard for me to regard them with any opinion at all unless I'm watching Pulp Fiction.
I have to agree with this post as well. Anyone putting ketchup on french fries is obviously insane. :p

Do you mean the Netherlands, or the Kingdom of the Netherlands?

Because if you mean the Kingdom of the Netherlands, then I think the US Library of Congress should give seperate codes for each constituent country, same as it does for the UK, US, Australia and other so-called "exception nations" formed of semi-independant regions.

If you just mean the Netherlands, I don't really know.

The Kingdom of the Netherlands used to consist of three separate countries: The Netherlands, The Dutch Antilles and Aruba. This was changed a while ago, with several of the Antilles' islands becoming just a township in the Netherlands (just on the other side of the ocean), some others becoming semi-independent like Aruba already was.

Holland, on the other hand, is a part of the Netherlands (and therefore part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands as well). The Netherlands consists of 12 provinces, two of them are Holland (south- and north-).
