Dont worry too much about it. While he does have quite a lot of people following him (current polls put his party at about 15% of all votes), everyone else thinks he is a *expletive deleted*. It will not last long.
I wouldn't be too sure about it going away any time soon. It's a trend shown across Europe, extreme nationalism and populism being on the rise. I fear that it'll last, and might only get worse.

Then again, when people see that the PVV fails to do anything their supporters want from them, now that they've got in a powerful position, they might wither and die. I sure hope so.

Doe Maar; the only Dutch-singing band that's worth listening to. Gotta love that chilled out ska/punk music.

I'm Dutch (originally from Amsterdam actually) and if I had the chance to leave here, I would leave YESTERDAY.
Yeah I was like that, but honestly compared to other countries we're not that bad. The lack of moral nannying here is so very nice.

Nah, I'm not one to make an opinion based off one asshole. It was a few posts that I read from Dutch Atheists that made me uneasy, but then again that was in the R&P section (which I usually prefer to stay away from).
Well I doubt they're representative for our entire population, so yeah. I mean sure I have no love for the Islam either, but I have something fierce against any faith involving worship, and I certainly ain't going to hate individuals for it. If they did then tsk, shame on them. Nothing personal from me here my man. I mean, I was classmates with one for my entire 5 years in high school, he was cool enough.

If you're ever going to visit this country I doubt you'll be greeted with the Evil Eye. We're used to something here.

Went there as a tourist from the USA and it did nothing more than confirm what generic media and movies had said. That the country is awesome, full of nice dudes, everyone speaks English well and is smart. They don't try to fleece tourists that much but I suspect that it might have to do with the fact that there are no real tourist areas (in tourist sections of Britain they have barcodes on their stinking ketchup packets, for real).
Walked around Amsterdam and saw that it was a very low crime place (what it felt like anyway) and the people acted morally upright and all that good stuff. Very nice museums, classical feel and yet there was advanced consumer tech where it would be expected.
Some in the USA view the "legalize everything" aspect as condoning immorality, but others look at it as a way to monitor/profit off of something that is going to happen anyway. These people are also envious of how in Holland they are smart enough to notice how things in the real world work and fix it rather than living in Candy land and hope for rainbows.
Politically the USA views Holland as a liberal country with a VERY civil/rational government that is boring (not that that is a bad thing). It looks like your politicians are a bunch of bland boring highly skilled professional (like Doc Martin or Spock, again in a good way) rather than charismatic occasionally skilled professionals.
Also, we have no damn clue how address you guys. We in the USA call it Holland/Netherlands but it is actually just a province or something. You speak Dutch but we don' call the place Dutch-land (reminds me of Germany and the Deutschland.) The official real name is "the low countries" or something but that is not really a name, that's a definition.
And your soccer team is really good in the World Cup.

I spent a week in Amsterdam and it was awful. I was mugged and had my car keyed.

I know I was just unlucky and that isn't enough to view the whole country negatively, but whenever I think of the Netherlands, that's what I think of.

I work in a customer support role, mainly working with children for an internet service. You'd be surprised how many Dutch people there are on-line, considering the country doesn't have a massive population, I meet almost as many Hollanders as Americans and more than the Brits.

You know what I hear from those Dutch kids? Kanker, lots and lots of kanker.

I used to play WoW, one of my names was Allemanus (named after an ancient Germanic tribe) apparently that sounds Dutch and I had a load of random dutch whispers. So apparently you're very social online.

Well I'm Dutch, but if I could find a job with our 'oosterburen' and a house there I'd emigrate in a heartbeat. Don't exactly like what is happening to this country. But that's politics (from the Latin 'poli', 'many', and 'ticks', bloodsucking parasites).

Dutch people as a rule are great though, and wherever I go online I meet my fellow countrymen :D

To anyone interested in coming here -- while just about every Dutchman speaks some English (or thinks he does at least), you should really learn the language. If I'm with friends and a couple of nonspeakers, we do tend to slip back into Dutch all the time inadvertently. And Dutch has a much larger vocabulary than English and is more complex, so it's not that easy to pick up for most people.
German speakers will have an easier time. Dutch is essentially a weird German dialect ^.^

I love our liberal ethics, regarding gay marriage and adoption, abortion, euthenasia etc. I also think regulating prostitution and soft-drugs usage is a good idea. Our school system is good (though having trouble due to lack of funding) and our little language is nice and quirky.

What I hate is the people's love of mediocrity. 'The common man' is revered as some sort of half-god, an ideal we all must strive to be. If you're exceptional at something and get rich with that, you must be punished by harsh taxes and are looked down upon by the common man. Well, except if you're a footballer. We have two sayings that best describe this attitude:

'Act normal, that's crazy enough' and 'Don't pop your head out of the cornfield' (or it'll be chopped off).
Odd.... that's called the "jante lag" in Sweden and is the same cultural phenomena.

I dunno. Northern Europe tends to have really good economies and brilliant living conditions, but I've never had a chance to go there so I don't know.

You seem to have a lot of double letters in names and words...at least from what I've seen, which isn't a lot.

Also Amsterdam seems like a pretty cool city.
