Seriously... May I remind you that we are still being ran pretty much by conservative christians and that the last government actually had a minister who worried about the amount of pubic hair on teenager bodies. You know who I am talking about, I presume. I have never seen so much moral nannying anywhere. I've been to the US a few times and I would move there today if I had the chance.Cowabungaa said:Yeah I was like that, but honestly compared to other countries we're not that bad. The lack of moral nannying here is so very nice.
Amsterdam is not that cool anymore. They closed down all the museums at the same time (brilliant, really), the whole city center is one big construction pit for a subway that's completely unnecessary and overruns the budget by about 500% (also causing damage to houses that are hundreds of years old), the coffeeshops are slowly being closed, the red-light district is shrinking, and it's not even legal anymore to walk around with a beer on a sunny day. The mayor is a complete moron who has no clue about city life in general. Nah, glad that I don't live there anymore. Oh, and don't get me started on traffic and parking fees.ChupathingyX said:You seem to have a lot of double letters in names and words...at least from what I've seen, which isn't a lot.
Also Amsterdam seems like a pretty cool city.
Oh yeah I know what you mean. Still, it wasn't as bad as in other Western countries. Most of that nanny-like babbling was just that; empty babbling, it didn't lead to that much legislation. Just stern looks and a "tsk tsk" finger.frans909 said:Seriously... But you're right about Doe Maar.![]()
American? So what, Columbian? Brazilian? Mexican? Canadian?chowderface said:I am American, but mostly I am immature, because "Netherlands" makes me giggle.
Sarcasm, yea? I have to check, I've been getting it wrong recently when I think they're joking ant it turns out they aren't.Quaxar said:And I find it shocking that I can't even trust Google to get my translations correctly!
Cowabungaa said:Can't say I disagree with you about Amsterdam though. Never really found that place appealing. It felt so...filthy, and run-down. It's really the only thing I really miss here in Holland; a modern million-plus city, something like Brisbane.
Well, i'm Muslim too, and I have met Dutch people. Now for my story...DesiPrinceX09 said:Well the Dutch seem to hate me because I'm Muslim so I don't exactly feel the same way as everyone else about the Dutch, sorry. But I don't have low opinions of Dutch people either, just because someone hates you doesn't mean you have to hate them back and I also refuse to believe that ALL Dutch people hate Muslims even if I was told such a thing, Dutch people don't automatically hate me...do they?
So? I don't like it myself so I don't get into it and avoid the places that are rife with it. Others do like it and are free to do so, and yes I like that they can despite me not liking it. That's called tolerance, the Dutch used to be quite famous for it.Cyberjester said:Read your whole comment again, then read that part. You say you like the "freedom" to be drug addicted whores, then dislike the result.
Yup, it is. Didn't know it was the same in Indonesian.starslasher said:I'm told that the Indonesian word for carrot (Wortel) is the same in Dutch, would that be right?
I'm going to stop you there and say that in no way shape or form is the rivalry in football between Germany and England one sided. The Germans go out and dance on the street when they see Britain do badly in the Eurovision song contest, and go mental about football easily as much as the British do. Germans love their footy too.SckizoBoy said:Oh yes, though I don't know where it stems from (1974 World Cup, I think). The English have a very one-sided rivalry with the Germans, not realising they couldn't care less.TwistedEllipses said:...My German uncle though refers to Dutch as a bastardised form of German and apparently the two countries have a rivalry in football?
OT: Yeah, I used to view the Netherlands as weed-capital of Europe, like most Brits. However, as I work with a fair few Dutch people, they're decidedly much more chilled out than most other Europeans.
