Whenever I see a kid under the age of 13 talking their ass off on a cell phone, I get this urge to break the phone and punch them in the face. Is it just me?
Definitley not you. Especially on a bus. When I'm with mates. AT FOUR IN THE MORNING. What the hell are kids doing out that late?

Anyway, I won't say that keeping kids from technology will do any good, as almost everything in these times require at least some technological equipment to do. Cooking, Washing, Cleaning, Traveling, Entertaining hell, even Sleeping!

However, giving kids £400 mobiles and a laptop they don't know how to use is f*cking ridiculous.
Second it.

The new generation of children is rude and obese.
Sure some of them are, but lets not comb everyone with.. well the same comb (I suck at translating expressions into english :p) Some of my cousins are very polite and decent and they are not older then 8 to 10 years old. I'm just saying that the kids who are gullied and spoilt by their parents usually end up in the same, cheeky way that I have experienced on the bus (Yes, I have been in the same situation Sneak_copter have) or anywhere else the little bastards choose to set their feet.

Many parents today are letting their kids get away with doing stupid things. This isn't limited to technology either. Kids can get away with anything. If they don't and get punished the parents probably cave in and end the punishment prematurely.

Personally I don't think kids should bring their Nintendo DS, PSP or anything like that to school. MP3 players I'm fine with honestly, and cellphones I'm on the fence here. 2 hours of talk time and 40 texts per week is ample enough for anyone under 14.

The piece of technology I had was a small boombox and a NES/SNES at grandma's.

Everything else I did was either outdoors or used some form of that long forgotten element called IMAGINATION.

Kids were much happier back in the old days, running around in the woods, playing, and generally being kids. Treating them like mini-adults and letting them have all the electronic stuff means they're missing out.
Phht. I live in Florida, what the hell do I have here?
Loads of whores on the beaches way out of your league?
I've actually been to the beach several times and I haven't seen anything but old people. So I suppose I'm either looking in the wrong place or my whore-dar only functions properly in school. Or it's simply the fact that I am to lazy to change the damn thing's batteries because it goes off like mores' code in school.

The '90s and '00s generations is like a new breed of humans.

Being part of the '80s generation, I grew up surfing the net on 56kbps dial up modems, shooting pixelated 2D monsters in Doom, and didn't own a mobile phone until I almost finished high school.

In comparison, the new kids are growing up with HD live stream video on 8Mbps connections, shooting photo realistic men in Crysis (and thinking graphics = everything), and own iphones that can do just about anything except for maybe making toast... but I'm sure Apple will introduce that too sooner or later.

When I was a kid, I thought having a phone in the house was pretty technologically advanced, and it costed a a small fortune to phone just about anybody. Now my 12 year old cousins can spend hours talking to their friends on the other side of the world, with a webcam live stream; for free!

I'd have to answer a question with a question...

What do little kids need mobile phones for?

I mean, the ones who aren't old enough to go out on their own. They don't need 'em to keep in touch with their parents because they're not going anywhere without them... honestly, I fail to see why they need them at all. I can't say I really have a problem with it per se, I just don't see the point. I say exactly the same of my parents, who are both disabled and rarely go out, but have five mobile phones between them for some utterly arbitrary reason.

I didn't get a mobile until my 16th birthday, though that was ten years ago and they weren't so ubiquitous that everyone and his dog had one at that time. I didn't need it even then, it was just a luxury. I could've waited another year until I went out to work before considering it really useful to have one. I rarely use the one I've got now.

As for other technology... I have no issue with kids having iPods and such, it would be a little hypocritical of me considering I always have mine in my earholes. In the case of the internet, well, I'd be quite happy if everyone under the age of 18 was banned from the internet, or at least forums, but that's probably just me being a grouchy old git.
I like this.

Yes, but then again, I didn't equip myself with MP3 and cell phone until I was like 15 (actually, I think I got my first cell phone at 16, two years ago).

But I guess it's the way it works. My parents didn't have any electronics when growing up because they were not available. Technology moves forward and becomes easier to access so I guess it's just natural. I do hate it when kids becomes spoiled brats with the latest gadgets though, I did when I was 11 as well.
