I'm not seeing them somehow getting the rights for doing this.
I wonder if they're going to make hero units there too, like a "Legolas" special unit that is awesome.

Me neither. And they wouldn't get it right anyways, at least for my ridiculous expectations for all things LOTR. And if it was based on the movies only, then it wouldn't even be worth doing.

Look it up, there is a really good mod for Medieval 2 total war that converts the whole game to middle earth with factions and events and the entire middle earth game map, it may not be as good as the real thing, but its close.

But srsly, I'd love a Total War: Horus Heresy ... on the scale of the old Epic 40K games, with Titan Legions and entire bloody chapters of Spehss Muhreens.

The turn based movement on a campaign map of the segmentum solar etc .... but they'd not be allowed by Games Workshop to do it on too big a scale because it'd rape the fluff (damn that sounds nasty ...), the only thing more stagnant than the Imperium of Man is the plot progression from GW - but then again, it is a Dark Age after all.

Another Rome would be awesome.

I do like the ideas of Warhammer 40k and Warhammer Fantasy versions. It would be like a video game version of Epic 40k and Warmaster.
