Neutral. Both left and right have something against videogames, so screw all those guys. (Humor)

You can't call it a spectrum.

There are many branches of each.

For example, I really don't think communism is just an extreme form of liberalism.

(I'm a liberal democrat myself.)
Yeah, that sprectrum is pretty awful. I don't even know what to say. I'm certainly more "liberal" than a liberal, but neither Democrat, Socialist, nor Communist accurately fits me. Weak.

I would describe myself as a Social Democrat.

Also, you should probably have put Socialist between Communist and Liberal.

The extreme left and extreme right are remarkably similar, but yes, you can call it a spectrum - that's a terminology everyone uses, the one we're seeing here just observes the most obvious/defining of the spectrum.

If you broke it up further then you'd see how central-leftist ideas can eventually become Communist ones, although even then, the spectrum is defined by what each side wants at it's very core (for the left, that's equality, for the right, personal liberty), so you could say that it's just those core tenants ranked on their extremity, although if they all have that core on one side or the other, they're linked in some way.

EDIT: I just looked at his spectrum in the OP (only bothered to look at the poll one), and yes, that is totally wrong. He's reversed the sides and then put in ones that aren't even base political positions.

my fellow escapists where do you stand on the grand political spectrum?

i myself am a democratic socialist and only a few corrupted corporation stories away from a full blown communist(aw shit this is an american site!)

if you want an example spectrum here's a rough one

|-----|---------------|-----------|-----------|---------|---------|----------|---------|--------|
facist imperialist republican conservative neutral liberal democrat socialist communist
royalist
and now place a mirror infront of that and it is a little less wrong.
Well at least i am quite shure that a facist or republican doesnt like to be called left winged.
And democrat isnt really part of that spectrum, the american party might be, but as long as you are for democracy, you are a democrat.
but to be precise i am a left-orientated social-democrat.

Want to know where?

Economic Left/Right: -2.00
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 1.38

Whatever that is in standard political terms. All I know is I can't find a single party I really agree with so I end up voting for whoever I disagree with least.

I am quite pleased how my placement in this chart compares to the International Chart [http://www.politicalcompass.org/analysis2] results, but suspect I will be one of the very few people in the red quadrant again.

I used to be communist (when I was young, 12-ish), then liberal, then anarchist, then liberal, and now I've just about fallen off the spectrum.

But I've always been very positive of throwing away the old and replacing it with something new and experimental.

The political "spectrum" can better be thought of as a triangle IMO with each point as Democratic, Communist, Authoritarian.

Wherever this falls in to the scale, I guess.
It kinda doesn't actually. As libertarian skews hard to the right on the linear spectrum system. It's hard to say that Bill Maher, Ayn Rand and Dick Cheney all occupy the same chunk of philosophical territory, but that is what the spectrum we're being asked to use does.

I'd have to respectfully disagree, I think that the extreme of liberal is communism, as they both stand to abolish the poverty trap and both stand for equality, I think it is just HOW EQUAL you want everyone to be that dictates the difference between the two and in fact all political leanings.

OT: I personally believe there is no such thing as a poor conservative, it's an oxymoron.

I just want to ask two little questions, Why only protect against aggression? and if the food was unsafe wouldn't that be classed as aggressive food and shouldn't that be regulated? sorry but the idea of less government seems Very strange to me, if anything the world needs more imo

I'm not entirely up to spec on this sort of thing. I think being a green puts me towards the liberal end of things, does it not? Even so, I'm pretty open as far as these things go.

That's a bad scale. The political world is not just left and right. In fact, it is more like a square.

To answer your question, though, I have left-libertarian leanings.
