Rapelay is a porn game so it will be treated like porn. You're acting like normal retailers would stock their shelves with it. Besides, you can only get it from Japan so the people to do acquire it really want it.

To me, porn games in general seem pretty stupid. I mean, you have to use both hands to hold the controller :D
I'll admit...i lol'd :D

No.

It's a game, its fiction.

There is rape fetish porn (acted of course) in real life, and that's not illegal. Frankly, this is less explicit than that, i'd imagine.

yes it has every right to exist. But that is about the only thing it can find for its own defense. Now boys and girls, what does that really say about it?

That its the same garbage as school shooter mods etc. Yes people love to be edgy and say NO CENSORSHIP! but honestly what good reason do you have to not censor it? how does a game like that enrich peoples lives?

And dont pull the "helps addicts get off without hurting people" argument, because stuff like this builds and builds in the mind till eventually, they will need the real thing again. Trust me, its just that simple.

Nope, if people can get off on this rather then trying to get their jollies in real life then hallelujah!
And you should actually play it to see it's not that bad, the acts are never presented as rape, to me it just looks like a kinky sex sim and if you to want view it as rape it can fit that too.

Can't see the point of sex games tho, you haveto put effort in to see some polygoned boobies, meanwhile half the internet is made of free porn... seems like pissing against the wind.

Like I've said before, RapeLay is no different from a typical hentai game.

The only difference is that the title is more blatant, and thus is picked up by the media's radar.

No, any and all fiction should be left alone. For most of us, every day we murder dozens, if not hundreds of virtual avatars in our games. We fight tooth and nail to protect our right to do that, banning rapelay just because it makes us uncomfortable is hypocrisy. I would never play any game like that, but the thing is that can be easily avoided. Just don't play it.

It sounds like it was already banned in some countries. I don't know who would want to play a game where you rape people...
I'm afraid I know EXACTLY who would want to play a game where you rape people ><.

They are aiming the game at a group of people that are shunned by the entire world, and above all it seems in Japan. Why this game is legal even there is beyond me. I haven't any idea if Fox News' greasy fingers has been over this game, but if they have/will it can't have been pretty on gamer-culture...
I disagree. We have many games that are about murdering innocents, but that doesn't mean that only murders want to play them. Just because the concept disgusts you doesn't mean only evil and immoral individuals want to play it.

I don't think it should be banned if similar stuff in other mediums are not banned. I see no value in the game but I don't see why it is so damaging to society that it must be banned.

At the end of the day, it comes down to freedom of speech. I wouldn't compromise freedom of speech for anything.

XD I'm a woman and I say keep it legal. Why? Because it's a fetish game, just like any other sexual roleplay that already exists. Let's face it, rape is a fetish for a lot of people. I'd rather those who entertain those thoughts to have an outlet rather than go crazy and ACTUALLY rape someone. As long as we aren't giving kids access, what is the harm?
I'm stupidly free speech and voted for this to be legal in the poll.

But, at the same time I'm torn. I honestly believe that "living out" a rape fantasy wouldn't cause someone to be less likely to do it in real life. I'm no psychology nut or anything, but generally serial killers find it easier and easier to kill after their first murder.

I'm afraid this might be easing them into it *squick.

I voted no.

I don't believe it should be banned for several reasons. Primarily because if you ban one game based on the opinion of a group, regardless of how large that group may be, you potentially start a dangerous precedent. Who decides what is "immoral"? What is to stop the very same precedent from banning the next Call of Duty based on objective moral stances? Yes the camp who would defend Call of Duty is far larger than the would be virtual rapists, the principal is the same. If you don't want someone trying to legislate your morality for you, you have to return the favor.

The second reason is, if you don't like it, banning it from store shelves would be far less effective than the open minded alternative. This alternative would be to abstain from buying it. Hell, even go so far as to publicly encourage others to to it in a blacklisting campaign. If no one buys it, the producers and studios that turn out this sort of product, as well as the stores that sell it might think twice the next time something similar comes their way. Effect the change you would see in the world by practicing the change, not hamfistedly quashing what you may find personally offensive.

Just my 2 copper.

Is it creepy as all hell that somebody would want to play this? Sure.
Will I ever play it? Not a chance in hell.
Should it be banned? No

It's rape porn. Rape porn exists in book, film and comic form and always has, mostly legally and without causing a firestorm like RapeLay did. So, whether rape porn should be banned is up for debate, but singling out RapeLay for a ban would be discrimination based on medium and set a precedent for video games not getting the same freedom of speech protections as other media.

Also, banning games that feature rape just because rape is bad (understatement) would open the floodgates to banning pretty much any game that features anything bad. Like killing, for example. If they banned all game that featured killing in any of it's forms, I'd say that would eliminate somewhere between 60 and 80% (percentage just pull out of nowhere, but it cannot be denied that killing is in a huge chunk of games) of all video games.

A wise man once said: "Where one burns books, one is destined to burn people."

Art and media (books, films, games, etc.) should never be banned. Even works like Mein Kampf. It is up to the consumer of the art (the reader, viewer, player, etc.) to decide what he or she wants to play, and wants to avoid.

Personally, I think anyone who plays a game about being a rapist is completely bananas, but that's THEIR choice. They can be their own weird selves, just so long as they do it far away from me.

Now, if these people take it to the real world...that's a completely different issue.

It should absolutely be banned for no other reason than to not feed fuel to the fire of those nut jobs that want to ban video games in general.
