The hauntings in Silent Hill 4 were damned creepy. I had to stop playing it for a while, they were so bad. O.O

Out of these, the only ones I have yet to play are the suffering and SH4. Condemned wins on account of the other games not even really startling me.

Bioshock is the scariest game that I've played so far.
I don't know about being the scariest, but that god damn dude in the dentists office scared a little pee out of me...that game also caused me to develop the habit of shooting any "dead" bodies I come across. That damn "playing opossum" gets me every time...

I didn't vote for any of these games because the only one I've actually played is Dead Space. I would say the scariest game I've ever played is Metroid Fusion. You know if I say a GBA game is the scariest game I've ever played then I'm serious. You spend the entire game alone on a space station overrun by monsters. Your only contact is a heartless computer and you run around in the slowly deteriorating ship with the eeriest music I've ever heard trying to avoid the imminent death of running into the unstoppable SA-X. Sometimes you can hear the SA-X's footsteps...then you start to wonder "Oh God! Where is it?!"

Close second, the island section of Resident Evil 4. The Regenerators scared the crap out of me.
Also, you fail at courage.
Hey dude, I kept going in those games despite being afraid. That's courage. Don't be a douche. I was answering the thread question.
that doesnt make you brave to keep playing them, it means your bored enough to keep scaring the shit outta yourself -_-

This is a terrible list, and a terrible thread. You just want people to answer your question, and give no substantial reasons for their choices. You should add some more beef to it, so it's not just a list thread.

For me, the scariest game I've played was Dizzy Fantasy Island, because I still have nightmares or the terrible jumping mechanics to this very day. That damn egg.

STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl is not on the list.

Therefor, your list is incomplete, and not worth voting in.

STALKER is the scariest thing I have ever experienced. I had to go through almost six months of readjusting back to normal life after only, maybe, a month or two of play (not actual play-time, just time in which playing occurred occasionally). Seriously, I was diving to hide every time the phone rang. And dark hallways were like walls. FOR SIX FUCKING MONTHS.

I still can't handle when people come up behind me and touch me in the back to get my attention...

Or when you start crying and almost collapse after someone jumps out from a corner and swings their hand at your face, in a mock punch\slap. It seriously happened...

Some scary shit in that game.

the only game i've ever played that ever really triggered the fear emotion was from resident evil. Sure games have suprised me and I get some shock value, but in resident evil games I have, say, the heart key, and four bullets.

And I really, really didn't want to open that door, because i knew what would be on the other side.

No, it means that the games were good enough that they were worth playing all the way through. I think you're thinking incorrectly about how scared I was. Metroid Fusion is very atmospheric. Play it if you can find it. Then you'll know what I'm talking about.
Bravery isn't the absence of fear, it's courage in the presence of fear. Saying you're not afraid of anything doesn't make you brave, just stupid.
I don't get why you have to criticize me for my choice.

Yeah, it's a pretty tame list. Also, I think we had another Scariest Game poll not that long ago. If the admins are on the ball on enforcing the spirit of the rules [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.50823], this thread'll be locked soon enough.

Games don't scare me. I played(most of) Condemned and it had a scary atmosphere and made me jump a couple times, but it wasn't that scary. The only other game I played on the list was RE2, and Resident Evil games are anything, but scary. I played RE2 in elementary school and it was not very scary. It's like "OMG there's a zombie shuffling at me from across a room." Well, at least I know I'll be fine during Z-day.

I'm surprised. S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s Controllers [http://www.igniq.com/images/stalker250804.jpg] were a bit scary at first, but eventually I decided that was just a camera trick. That was pretty much the only really scary enemy in the game, although those cloaked ones had to be watched out for.

Lucky you didn't play System Shock 2, you'd be institutionalized. Those Cyborg Midwives put me off from completing the game for years.

But it's not fair to criticize, different things scare different folks. I just couldn't resist amazement at the idea of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. generating this impact.

Resident evil 2, think i was about 12 when i played it home alone THAT was the scariest game ever, of all times
Though when i look back at it now the only reason it was scary was because the camera angles was retarded and the controls too
Tried reinstalling it awhile back and after 5 minutes i got i had a ragequit and deleted it for good

I must get this game, even if it is only to see if that will happen to me.
