So I saw the new store feature for TF2, and thought, "Cool," until I saw that you actually pay your own money for the weapons and hats. I was expecting in-game cash for killing players, getting dominations, or winning matches.

So what I'm asking is...

"Why we must pay real money to buy in game stuff?"

Well because gaming is a business..and they have to make money off you.

So what you're asking is... what? Why do we have to pay money for in-game stuff? Let me answer your question with another question. Why do we have to pay for DLC?

I might just be paranoid, but I'm worried that Valve might be beginning to sell out. Though the content in the TF2 Store is non-exclusive, since they're beginning to pay the community contributers there will be a lot of pressure to force payments out of players for using submitted content. If Valve yields to these requests it could easily fall back to the micro-transaction system of selling overpowered weapons.

Valve has assured us that they aren't planning anything of the sort in their FAQ of course, but I'm still a bit concerned about this. The TF2 Store can be a big money pot for Valve, and if they get greedy...

You don't have to pay...if that's the answer you seek, all items(except, maybe promotional items) you see in the store are obtainable through drop system,so if you see anything you like, chances are you'll eventually get it without having to pay.

It's just Valve's way of asking you "nicely" for a little support. I personally don't bothered by it too much, after all,i don't have to pay,and if i feel like donating 5 bucks to a company i love,I'll just visit the store and pick a weapon or hat that caught my interest.

Half life 3 doesn't fund itself. I;m just saying.

The whole thing will fail miserably and will be scrapped soon IMO.

The main problem I have with the store is that it means that Hats will lose almost all of their value.

Ever heard of Maple Story? Or Audition? Or Mabinogi?

They have made a micro-store because impatient people will pay to get certain accessories faster. If you disagree with this concept (can't imagine why), then don't buy anything.

Eh. I'm not a huge fan of the idea.

However, you can still get the stuff through playing the game normally, so there isn't really any reason for me to complain.

EDIT: I just thought of something. I bet there are going to be people getting pissed off when they cough up the real-world cash for an item, only to find that same item in the game five minutes later.

I like it- means that
A) Veterans get to feel superior to the n3w85 who bought stuff (With all their stuff being dubbed "vintage") and
B) I get to play with the fricking Cloak and Dagger. The Dead Ringer has been sitting in my inv, taunting me.
Besides, what with the usually RIDICULOUS Steam sales, I think Valve is entitled to a bit of extra cash.

Valve said why:"make some f$*&ing money already." Plus you don't have to buy them I'm mean they did give like years of free content before hand so I really don't see the big deal.

My thoughts exactly. I would have been okay with the system if not for overpowered "full-kit bonuses" provided if you wear (rarely dropping) hats along with your weapons. Certain hats have effect on gameplay now, and there's an ability to buy them for real money, which is pretty disturbing.

September 29th:
Weapons, items and hats can be found by random drop (by dying or killing other players), earning them with achievements, or crafting them.

September 30th:
Weapons, items and hats can be found by random drop (by dying or killing other players), earning them with achievements, crafting them or purchasing them. (All items obtained by methods that aren't purchasing before this point are now rare items, given the distinction of 'Vintage')

People somehow seem to think this will prove disadvantageous like Team Fortress took a big bite out of Battlefield: Heroes and thought "I gotta get me some of that". Along a similar vein of that game but still with none of the effects of the gameplay, TF2 is now more accessible to those who are too impatient to play for random drops, or just like to have custom names and colors on things. The update makes the game more customizable, and more befitting of those with short tempers and long wallets. Even new items people may not entirely grasp yet like the Mann Co. Supply Crate, Supply Crate Key, Name Tag and Paint Can, can all be found with a random drop.

That said, I can't entirely understand why people would think this makes Valve the worst people since those people who caused the Idlercaust [http://store.steampowered.com/news/2789/]. It's not like anyone lost anything or was stopped from doing something.

We can still unlock stuff through random drops.

To all the haters: You don't have to buy anything and it won't change your game. Are you not grateful for the 3 years of FREE updates valve provided?

Think of it this way; since TF2 was released, Vavle haven't got a penny off us bar the original price of the game. And they still update it and change it into a brand new game every time.

I bought the full pack for £30 because it's a brilliant deal and Valve deserve the money!

I am of the belief that one must completely absorb all information present before they are allowed to freak out.
Well maybe in a few years you'll receive all the items :D. The only thing which sort of bugs me is the inclusion of full-set-item buffs. Hats are meant to be cosmetic yet a buff is given.

You may say that the buffs have their place there (Sniper one, not being able to be headshotted, without giving headshots.) I'll counter that by stating that would it be fair if 1 sniper has no hat, the other sniper has the hat, and they both have the same loadout? No it is not, and with the very rare chance of getting hats, and to get SPECIFIC hats, I'd have to say this is one of the only things that need fixing.
