The first two examples you gave were sarcastic. Just sayin'.

As for the last one: Nah. It's really nothing to get offended by. Tell your friend to simmer down.

I've never noticed him say it actually. I might if I was gay, and I'd probably be offended by his use of the word "****" if I was female. But I'm neither.
I am female, but I've never been offended by him using the word "****". It's like he just doesn't use it with the right amount of venom to make it seem like a personal attack. I suppose it's the same with all of his insults though. He's not insulting the people viewing his videos, he's just throwing around insults in general.

I punched a prick in Seattle for insulting one of my friends, among other things he called him a "stupid ******" and I decided that deserved a punch in the face. Especially since this guy was visibly upsetting my friend.

Still I use the word from time to time myself, as does he, and several other friends. It's the way we use it through. We are not intending to single out the guys in our group of friends that happen to be gay and insult them specifically for being gay, we just happen to use the term in the manner of a fairly generic swear.

Intent makes a big difference.

It doesn't bother me at all, because I'm not gay. I understand why the gays would be offended, but I really don't care about their problems. I support their struggle for equality, but only in spirit, never in time, effort, or resources. I should also think they have many more important things to worry about than some fellow's choice of foul language.
I just wanted to say since I noticed this, that this is a ridiculous attitude to have and is also offensive. You sound incredibly selfish and self-serving. You can not be gay, and I'm not, and still, you know, have some sort of care or empathy or respect towards gay people. And give them some type of "advice" when you basically don't give two flying shits about their existences and lives. To support the gay community, you would, you know, actually support them, and be there for them, and do what a SUPPORTER would do. You aren't a true support, it's just token, just words. As you say yourself, you don't give a damn about gay people. So, why consider yourself a supporter?

Gay people don't actually care if you call things gay, i've found it's usually straight people with gay friends or strong beliefs that cause the most fuss over stuff like that. Or drama queens, they'll be offended by anything if it gives them attention.

Well, if youre bothered by the idea of him being homophobic, take comfort that he's also racist and misogynistic.

Call him what you will, but at least you can't call him unfair.

Actually, I don't think he's any of these thing. I think he's a cynical smartass, and that's how we tend to talk normally. He kinda talks about context in his Resident Evil 5 review, when he analyzes how they portray black people. It's not that they're racist, its that they're idiots. *shrug*

I like this fly-boy's fire. He has a certain jeh neh say kwah.

He has a point though. You know what it means. I know what it means.
It doesn't mean "retard" or "douchebag" like some are claiming. Yes, on 4chan, it basically means "person", but when it's used in any other context, it means "sissy, not unlike a mincing fairy". People call one another it over multiplayer games to directly attack the other person's masculinity. This isn't a secret.

And it ain't your job to "reclaim"/"normalize" it for them, so sit back and wait it out. You still have quite a backlog of words you "can't" use without getting pre-approval so it might take a bit before you get to that one.
Thank you! I'm definitely opinionated. And yes, that's the entire point. Like I said, Yahtzee videos, there is what some would consider offensive language, but he's out there like that, but that's part of what makes him who he is. However, we all know that the word ****** in every day life, is not just a generic word like douchebag. It's a much heavier loaded word with all kinds of negative connontations. It is a word MEANT to cut an individual down and offend. And, it is a word that has a meaning and implied message we all know. How anyone can say it's just a joke word when no-one else it in that fashion is sort of ridiculous.

This whole attitude of "it's just a word" stems from people not wanting to address the actual realities of the word and why they use it, and not wanting to care about the feelings of others, all because it makes them think, and we know that's a struggle for many.

Nope.

I have no real reason as to why I'm not like the rest. I just put in the category of all the other obscenities. And since "bad words" stopped bothering me some time ago, it's hardly a big issue to be honest.

on the topic of other things he says, i have ADD, and i take Ritalin for it, and i laugh my ass off at his Ritalin jokes, that's the beauty about him, i once heard that in order to be prejudiced, you have to love another side, he hates everything, and i wouldn't have it any other way ;)

Yet another example of the Escapist being absolutely contradictory. I remember a few earlier threads and the overwhelming consensus was that most people think that using "gay", "******", "homo" ect as synonyms for bad was an awful thing to do and something like 80% of people said that they would never do it and see it as wrong.

...Yet it's fine here?

Anyway, on topic no I don't find it offensive when someone calls someone gay or someone calls someone a ****** for being stupid or annoying them. The meaning of those words has changed and to call someone a "fag" in a joking way does not make you homophobic. Most of the time, it has nothing to do with sexuality.

I'll bat for either team based on my whim at the time. I say that to give my opinion context.

The use of the word "******" as an insult depends on the intent of the user. I don't find the way Yahtzee uses it particularly insulting because he's never given us any solid evidence that he actually hates gays. On the other hand, you have have that christianist leader of some "family" group that was in the news recently for declaring that "all faggots should die." I find that kind of use insulting because there's hate behind it. He truly thinks that not 100% straight people are freaks and should be removed from society.

Does that make sense?

Yahtzee's swearing is bad, no one can say otherwise. But he manages to not make it offensive to someone, due to the fact that he is offensive to everyone, so instead of feeling offended, we laugh our ass off every time. :D
