As long as it is populated with people from this planet it will end up being a shithole. And by reading that short summary there I got the feeling that whoever wrote that has little to no knowledge about economy and human psychology. Pluss such things have been atemted before once even on a pretty large scale but it went to shit anyways.

Though I did read a book that essentially had such a world, with I guess a bleak version, since everyone was very isolated from everyone else. He couldnt even find the door to outside.

To build a self-replicating, resource collecting, self-maintaining and product producing machine world so that all may live in peace and laziness. Beautiful. I would say damn near impossible, but beautiful none-the-less.
