Seems there's a new cause for violent behaviour being found every week, sometimes its video games other times it's Justin Bieber's unfounded popularity. Today we have a new enemy in the war against violence.

Soft drinks. Also known as Soda and/or Pop.

What will be the next focal point for the War on Violence?

Next will probably be books, since they provoke emotional response and make people think which is the most dangerous thing as it seems... War against violence looks more and more like a war against common sense.

And after all these years of thinking it was anger and poor impulse control. I feel all sorts of silly now. Makes me want to punch an otter in the face.

Okay, that's an interesting news story, sur- wait...

"Among those who drank one or no cans of soft drink a week, 23% carried a gun or a knife; 15% perpetrated violence towards a partner; and 35% had been violent towards peers."

What the fuck?
That's just scary. Nice to see that these people feel safe in their own neighbourhood.

Correlation =/= causation.

Every time you read a "shocking new study" on the internet- or hell, ANYWHERE, just keep that little fact in mind.

Out of those options GM wheat sounds like the most likely candidate that the crazy hysterical sensationalists will latch on to. But I think video games will be the scapegoat for a long while yet. If people really want to ban stuff that influences people to be violent they should just ban life. Ban school, ban jobs, ban talking, ban reading, ban people, ban everything. Because that's obviously the only practical and effective way to do it.

I'm voting for High-fructose corn syrup. Enough of that blasted imitation, let's have the real thing. Damn quotas...

This. It's positively toxic stuff. Kill it all and use more fruit.

Right now its more profitable for farmers to grow entire countries worth of corn than it is to grow useful stuff like fruit and sugar cane.

It's nice that we here in Australia enjoy a healthy sugar cane industry. All the locally produced soft drinks are made with real sugar and do they taste better for it.

I wonder if HFCS soft drinks have a higher violence ratio.

MLP/Bronies. :p But in a less insultive way, we could ban hats. That's right, hats cause violence. Need proof? Look at TF2. Armed gunmen killing each over hats (I think)!

It could be that humans are just violent in nature as we have had to be to survive. Oh no, that's just not possible. Otherwise how would we be better then animals? :p

Sorry but I have to ask... are you actually expecting the huddled masses to utilise common sense, I thought that was like expecting Jehovah's witnesses to leave my door the hell alone.

No, I realised the incredible improbability of that long ago.

But I keep clinging to the hope that one day people will realise that they have functioning brains...

I more cling to the hope that one day these people will... well just stop having opinions as extreme as that sounds, I just find myself constantly thankful I don't live in an area where peoples opinions are backed up by freaking weaponry.

Why do people say this? It's just a fructose-sucrose mixture. The harmful part comes about only because it's cheaper than sugar, and so "food" and "beverage" companies just drown their products in the stuff. It's no worse for you than sugar. A little more complex to digest, maybe, but not really worse.
