Buy the book. Rent the movie. Movie is alright, but the book is a million times better. You just can't capture everything the book tried to convey in three hours.

I can honestly say that Watchmen is one of my favorite movies. I loved the plot, each character got a great deal of development and the fight scenes were great. The thing I loved most was that it showed the gritty, real side of being a superhero. I'd buy it.

the only "Superhero" in Watchmen is Dr Manhattan. Everyone else is a "Masked Vigilante"

The movie is fantastic, and the book is even better. If you're a person that regularly buys DVDs, then yeah, it's a good one (although I would personally never buy a movie I hadn't seen).

Dr Manhatten and the Comedian.

For any watchmen fans out there, check out this clip. Its a mockup of the intro to the watchmen cartoon mentioned by ozymandius in one of the marketing correspondances that features in the graphic novel...

That's quite strange but funny. On topic, I'd say that you should either get the book or the movie because the adaption is quite good so there's not too great a difference between them. The book's still a bit better but they're both good.

Buy it. It's one of those movies you multiview to get everything. Also, try picking up the graphic novel as well. It will heighten your enjoyment of the film.

I wouldn't consider the Comedian a superhero, but he was pretty awesome.

OT: Definite buy. I saw the movie and then read the novel, and still loved the movie. Both are excellent, and you should buy both if you can.

a great movie, but nothing compared to the novel, after youve watched the movie read the comic, read it again, then one more time then join a fan site.

I don't have a Blu-Ray player, so that edition was right out for me, but let me tell you SKIP the stupid 2-disc collectors edition.

I should've done my research before I bought it, agreed, but I LOVED the theatrical release and kinda impulse bought the 2 Disc Collectors edition; I was really hoping for at least a directors commentary. The featurettes on Disc 2 didn't justify my spending $10 more (IMO of course), they were actually quite boring.

Oh, and a note about the "digital copy" provided on Disc 2; I've tried it on 3 operating systems (two of which are the Win7-RC, one 32-bit and one 64-bit, and good 'ol XP SP3), and it won't let me access it on any of them. Fail.

And just to iterate it for the tl;dr crowd: Go out and buy it, but either buy the Blu-Ray (I've heard it's good) or the Standard edition. The +$10 2-Disc Collectors Edition kinda sucks.

Yes. The Extra 24 minutes is woven in so perfectly. If anything, the movie feels more complete with it. Buy the Director's Cut.

He is employed by the U.S though.

the definition given in the book for "super" is having super powers

the only other person besides Dr Manhattan who is at all considered super in the novel is Ozymandias, the "Smartest Man Alive"
