So the Wii U has been out for just over a month in Australia, however not many "non-gamers" know about it, let alone are considering a purchase.

So my question is. What type of gamer do you class yourself? And whats your stance on the Wii U?

I don't really know what kind of gamer I am.. 'hardcore' I guess but I prefer 'enthusiast' haha.

Either way I am sort of interested in buying one, but not for a good 6-12 months yet. The only games I have any interest in right now are ZombieU, NintendoLand and Funky Barn.

I hope the system does well though, and more third parties get behind it, could be interesting if it has longer support than the Wii did because I think the tech is interesting. The launch lineup wasn't enough to sell it to me though. Even with the generous post Christmas discounts.

I hate the terms casual and hardcore gamer
I play games so I am a gamer, that's how I see things
If you enjoy it and how much that's personal

On the WiiU...
Another thread I just answered that popped up the same time as this so I'll just copy paste

I think it's awesome, only had fir about 3 weeks thou and it's been out for, what 5 in Europe?

Played NintendoLand, ZombiU and FIFA and having darksidersII ready for when I beat ZombiU.
And so far Loving it, more "normal" controlls than the Wii but still something special.
Think I'll need a good 5-7 games until I could give a full evaluation thou

Hardcore, and I don't want one.

Maybe once there are actually games out that interest me and when the cost is lower but, for now, there's just nothing out of on the horizon that speaks to me as being worth the cost.

Wow, no middle ground there. I'd call my self hardcore because I have hundreds of games over maybe close to a dozen different systems, and I have a Wii U, but haven't played it much yet (hence the no middle ground comment). Technology is cool, and some of the features on it are a must have for any future console, but at the moment, there aren't too many games out for it that interest me. Whole reason I bought one already was because I had a $250 gift card for Best Buy and nothing else to get.

If I had to I'd say I was a hardcore gamer, and I really like the Wii U. Admittedly not everything was perfect, but I really enjoy it. New Super Mario Bros U and Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed are an absolute blast to play with other, and I can't wait for Rayman Legends. The demo for it has me super hyped for it.

And the Willem Dafoe Rabbids Land is absolutely hilarious. Thank God For Jim there =P

Also, being able (for some games anyway) to just play on the Gamepad and have something else on the TV is just fantastic.

Fantastic console, and I can't wait to see what's to come in the future (Zelda, Smash Bros, etc.)

I'd played Nintendo Land at my friend's apartment, and it was without a doubt one of the most fun multiplayer experiences I've ever had.

I'm definitely getting one, hopefully the other people who aren't interested will be soon, because they are missing out big time.

If I HAD to choose, I am HARDCORE... but with mix in of CASUAL traits. So I am not sure WTF I am.

Anyways, I am NOT INTERESTED in the WII U. I dont particulary blame it thougt, as I dont have ANY interest in any of the CONSOLES, lets start from there.

Yes. I am a PC GAMER, if anything. PC FTW!!!!...

That begin said, I want both NINTENDO and SONY consoles to WIN the war. Microsoft is MEH, I dont HATE them, but I dont LIKE them either...

This guy right here wins the internet for having the right answer. See, it didn't take that long.

The WiiU? Personally, it doesn't appeal to me. After my experience with the Wii, I'm convinced I just wanna sit back, relax and play a game, not shame my hands and body all around in an attempt to pretend I'm part of the game or for workout or whatever. The Wii had some good games and it pains me that most of them force you to use motion controllers. So no, the WiiU doesn't appeal to me at all. Maybe when it goes waaaaay down. (The only way I convinced myself to get a Wii about a year ago was when the price went down to $80).

I keep forgetting what casual and hardcore mean. Is it how much time you spend playing them? Or how difficult the games you play are? Or a collection of both? I guess I'm either one or the other depending on the game.

The Wii U has nothing I want and I hate it's fat controller. I would actually consider getting it if they still gave me the option for the Gamecube controller or something similar, and not make most big games based around the gimmick. Why can't they give fucking options? Why in the future when every thing is meant to become more convenient/easier, I usually find myself having to adjust to something new and flawed?

I'm not going to dismiss it altogether, but I really don't trust Nintendo at all at the moment. I actually bought all the other consoles on the first day they came out (starting from the SNES), so it's a big deal to me. I'll never forget how amazing they were.

You mean like this?

OT: I'm a softcore gamer and I have to wait for more games to judge a console. That tablet controller looks gimmicky and while it may be fun from time to time or if used right I can't see myself playing it seriously for extended periods. Actually I wouldn't even be able to since the charge only lasts 3 hours.

Your poll needs an option for "Not interested at the moment, but watching for developments".

Yes, that may be the answer. Thank you. I don't know how I missed that one.

I'll have to try it out first, and of course I'll then have to wait and see if they make it for the games I want.

Why does it look more like an Xbox controller? Would've prefered another Gamecube controller type design.

Some months im hardcore and some im casual, not sure why but some months I realy don't like playing video games and other months I get no sleep for weeks and skip way too many meals. As for the Wii U, I do not regret buying it but I haven't played it much due to none of my friends having one and my massive backlog on just about every other system and my inablity to put Persona 4 the Golden down. Also zombies give my GF nightmares so I don't get much time (if any) to play ZombiU.

Thing is it's just way to new at this point. Give the Wii U a year or so to build up a decent library of games and I think tunes will be changing.

Pretty slim on poll options :/

Anyway, I would consider myself a casual gamer, and while I really like the Wii U (been playing it at a friend's) I'm not foaming at the mouth or anything. After a year or so when there are more games and a price reduction I'll consider getting one, but not now. From what I've heard, the 'Wii mode' on the Wii U acts much like 'GC mode' on the Wii (in that it essentially becomes that console), and so all the Wii homebrew is compatible with the Wii U. That's a big plus for me, since I might be able to retire the Wii without giving up all my games.

People are actually waiting to "see how things turn out"...? Apparently someone is living on mars, with their fingers in their ears and their heads in a hole. It's a Nintendo console, you know EXACTLY how it's going to turn out. It will get Nintendo's big hitters: Mario, Zelda, Mario kart etc. Either you love this stuff or hate it, the point is you are waiting to see what you already know. It's not like Nintendo just popped up overnight, what they do isn't a mystery. No true surprises are coming, so take it or leave it.
I got one the moment it was released; I do that for almost every console because I like video games. Also, for the record, I think Nintendo making games that are still just trying to be nothing more then video games (and not interactive movies) is as hard core as gaming can possibly get.

So you predicted the Wii was going to have that motion plus shit before it was released?

Well congrats then. By the way the motion thing is a real CON in my eyes, but thats another theme for another thread.

If polls allowed more then 8 options I would have thrown a few more options.

I think xPieclatedx's statement sums things up nicely.
