Real gangsters don't go shouting around that they're gangsters. Just like real hardcore gamers don't go shouting around they're hardcore gamers.
Cool story, needs more dragons.

I'm what I consider a hardcore gamer and on introduction It's a statement that I may make (depending on the person and situation) I live and breathe the industry, the majority of my spare cash goes into gaming gear and I spend the majority of my spare time gaming. I'm pretty sure that more then puts me into the hardcore category that goes around "shouting" about it.

And if you must..... An Anonymous poll doesn't require someone to shout about.

Until they announce a Zelda game, a date for SSB Wii U or some other game that is a must-have for me, I'm not interested.

Come in to rag on me for saying something instead of contributing to the thread? Cool story, bro. And you're what I consider a Gaming Enthusiast. We all have our opinions. And mine is that real hardcore gamers let their skills do the talking, not their words. If you want to consider yourself a hardcore gamer, more power to ya. But try contributing to the discussion next time instead of coming in purely to attack someone's opinion. Did I need to state it? No. Was it vital to the discussion? No. But I said it anyway and if that bothers you, tough titties.

Im not interested in the Wii U at all.

The way I see it, it came out way too late, with the next gen Xbox and PlayStation (hopefully) around the corner, I cant help but feel that the Wii U with equal if not SLIGHTLY better hardware than the current-gen consoles is going to get left in the dirt when the next gen console come out; a touch screen isn't going to make it sell. That and Nintendos focus is on "Hardcore" gamers, and most of the "hardcore" games are 3rd party ports like Mass Effect 3 or Batman: Arkham City; games which most people already own on another platform, because most devs are reluctant to make games for the system (as recently shown by EA/Crytek)
I feel like the whole next gen will be another PS3/Xbox > Wii type of deal, again. Where the Wii U is constantly looked down at as an inferior console to the Nextbox and PlayStation4, but sell more units than either of the other two.

I am waiting for a LoZ special edition WiiU (hopefully to be bundled with whatever new LoZ game comes out for the WiiU) although my housemate has one and they're pretty cool.

So the Wii U has been out for just over a month in Australia, however not many "non-gamers" know about it, let alone are considering a purchase.

So my question is. What type of gamer do you class yourself? And whats your stance on the Wii U?
There needs to be a "Hardcore: Observing" for those that are still deciding/waiting to see.

I'll wait to see if u can add that before voting.

I'm just a player. I pick games that appeal to me personally, play on single player and, go from there. I have a Wii U and have really been enjoying it, beating ME3 once on it already and spending a ton of time playing Arkham City on it. Trying to separate hardcore and casual just seems like kind of a stupid thing to do in the gran scheme of things. If you're playing a game you're playing a game, no matter what the platform or difficulty. If you wanna call yourself a gamester that's all well and good. If you consider yourself a casual gamester that's all well and good. If you etc etc etc; I'm just a player. A player who beat Zelda 2 and, Predator on the NES but who can't bowl a 200 in Wii Sports.

I keep forgetting what casual and hardcore mean. Is it how much time you spend playing them? Or how difficult the games you play are? Or a collection of both? I guess I'm either one or the other depending on the game.

The Wii U has nothing I want and I hate it's fat controller. I would actually consider getting it if they still gave me the option for the Gamecube controller or something similar, and not make most big games based around the gimmick. Why can't they give fucking options? Why in the future when every thing is meant to become more convenient/easier, I usually find myself having to adjust to something new and flawed?

I'm not going to dismiss it altogether, but I really don't trust Nintendo at all at the moment. I actually bought all the other consoles on the first day they came out (starting from the SNES), so it's a big deal to me. I'll never forget how amazing they were.
You mean like this?

OT: I'm a softcore gamer and I have to wait for more games to judge a console. That tablet controller looks gimmicky and while it may be fun from time to time or if used right I can't see myself playing it seriously for extended periods. Actually I wouldn't even be able to since the charge only lasts 3 hours.
Yes, that may be the answer. Thank you. I don't know how I missed that one.

I'll have to try it out first, and of course I'll then have to wait and see if they make it for the games I want.

Why does it look more like an Xbox controller? Would've prefered another Gamecube controller type design.
Let's be honest with ourselves here, the Wii had how many controller options and how many games allowed you to chose other options? I have a few games that say motion controls only so while that's not damming, it doesn't mean it's something you can expect to allow freedom of choice either.

Hardcore and at the moment, not interested. None of the games interest me enough to buy it. The only game I really want is whatever the new Zelda is and that's not enough for me to buy a console.

I'm a midcore gamer; I bounce back & forth between hardcore & casual like like a ping pong ball.

Now that the original Wii has been replaced, I was thinking of getting one dirt cheap for the exercise room. I'm expecting the type of games that can only keep you amused for 5 minutes at a time & make you burn calories.

If the Wii U has both casual & hardcore on it, then I'll just end up sitting on my ass in the exercise room playing hardcore games most of the time. I'll stick with the original.

Hardcore, not getting one.

Not unless you can play most games with the 'normal' controller instead of that gimmicky tablet thing.

I find it damming when I really don't want to play those games because of the controls.

I just read all the comments in the forum segment of the Jimequistion about the WiiU winning the next console war and I wonder, for those who posted there back in September, what your opinions of the WiiU now due to it being released and your personal experiences with it.

I tested it out recently at a local Best Buy and what I can comment about it is that journalists weren't joking on how awesome the GamePad is. I never thought something so big and wide can feel so comfortable and light. THey weren't kidding when describing the thing in the previews I've read and testing the screen out for the Rayman demo, 90% percent of the time it works and it doesn't feel like a chore to utilize. Hell, I may not have a problem using it as my primary controller whenever I actually get a WiiU.

When I had my hands on, I too found that the controller was remarkably light *for what it is* and not that I'm saying it's comfortable *and I only had 20 minutes hands on* but it wasn't shockingly bad. However the smaller screen felt like a complete waste; If I had been given the Xbox-like controller and knew nothing about the Wii U I would have been shocked when told it was designed for a controller with a panel in it.
