Said it before I'll say it again... The mass opinion doesn't sway me. I take the Buddhist monk stance of "We'll see", meaning I will wait and see what the truth is, how it affects me or not and what games come out in the first year of release. Just like every other console.
I prefer the "Make everyone mad" approach.

I spent $400 on a PS3 5 years ago and it plays Borderlands 2 without having to lower any settings. Not sure why you think your laptop is in any way a good option... In other words, badgersprite is right.
Since you are playing on a console you don't have to turn down the settings, that's already been done for you. Up-scaled from 720p to 1080p, anti-aliasing off by default and no option to turn it on, frame rate limited to 30, 24 for some games which causes screen tear.

Badgersprite is right about what exactly? That he/she got ripped off? If that is the case, then you are also correct, he is/she is right.

There's a pretty big difference between a laptop and a PS3. I bought my laptop expecting it to be a portable computer, with the added function of playing games that were made before it. A PS3 is bought with the expectation that it's a dedicated gaming machine, and you will be playing games that were made after it. The laptop can change settings as needed, a PS3 can't. A laptop is portable, a PS3 that needs its TV isn't. When both look about the same graphically, but the laptop does more, you're getting what you paid for.

If Badgersprite is so right, then he'd at least be able to play BL2 on low on his $800 laptop. Otherwise he got ripped off. The quality of the graphics isn't the point anyway; it's the cost and functionality of the device.

I've really loved my Xbox 360, and I was planning on getting the new Xbox when it came out.

Was being the key word. I don't care what kind of back-pedaling they're going to try to do, the used games bit, as well as the always online connection just killed it for me.

Sure, another Xbone thread, why not, it'a not like we've had eleventy thousand of these already ¬_¬

OT: Unless they essentially overhaul the whole thing, which I'm doubtful of, I won't be getting one.

Didn't care before.
Now SUPER don't care.

Honestly, as mad as I was about Nintendo being behind the curve, after looking at the way the curb is heading, I'm actually glad for it.
The PS4 looks salvageable, perhaps, IF they allow some form of backwards compatibility with the PS3/PSN selection of games. And at least it isn't marketing itself on features that most TVs are going to come with standard over the next year or two.

But the XB1? Nope. Nothing appealing about it at all. The only hope I have for it is that Microsoft will see the PR ****storm its uncomfortably-vague answers on its uncomfortably-invasive policies and delay it to make it less of a cluster****.

But that's unlikely. So it looks like I'm stuck with you, Wii U... And if you don't get some games soon, I'll go full-time PC.

I wasn't going to get it the first place. The best the presentation could have done was put me on the fence... which it didn't. I was waiting to see if the new exclusives would be worth it, considering I don't give half a damn about any post-Bungie Halo games and simply don't care about any of the other exclusives. But they weren't, in that they didn't reveal anything other than the next CoD. IF I do get a console it will be the PS4. If the games Sony shows off are interesting then I'll probably end up getting it. If not, I'll stick with my PC.

I won't lie, I likely wasn't going to get a XBone. I generally like Sony's exclusives better.

However, I wasn't saying anything negative about the idea of the XBox720. Nope, I don't even hate the 360. I have plenty of friends with them and they enjoy them. Hell, I've had some fun with them. And the PS3 is far from perfect. But now... No. This new XBone is utter garbage. At least there was some positives after the PS4 announcement, but this one was so bad that Sony stock went up 10%. And things only seem to get worse the more I hear.

Now, they could fix it...

But the problem is not an easy one to fix, without delaying the console, by a fair degree. They NEED the used game fee because the games are downloaded onto the hard-drive. But why? This makes no sense. Did people not hate the fact that PS3 did that (though not completely)? Because I'm pretty sure most people were vocal in hating that. It's not that the used game fee is a solution in search of a problem. It's that it's a stupid solution for a problem that they created!

Don't get me wrong, I would still hate the fee even if the games didn't download onto the console's (limited) hard-drive. It's still annoying and stupid. It would still destroy the entire concept of lending your friend your games, or renting a game, or even having more than one account on the same XBone. It's still a terrible idea that even EA had the brains to put an end to.

Though, that's not to discount the other myriad of problems.
~Online requirement
~Not Reverse Compatible (nor is the PS4, but this is just another nail in the coffin)
~Outright contempt for Indie Developers
~Stupid fucking name

As it stands, I know next to no one supporting this thing. The only exceptions being fanboys or people unlikely to buy it in the first place.

Oh, and I heard that the applause during the conference were fake. If that doesn't leave a bad taste in your mouth, I don't know what will.

And for a fun game, watch Angry Joe's reaction to the PS4 and then watch his reaction to the XBone. It's like night and day.

Was on the fence, only because I didn't know what it would offer, decided not to get it within 15 minutes of the presentation. I could go into why, but everything has been said, said and said again by now.

No, the point is, he ask for unwarranted suggestions. The point is he wants a cheaper solution that is a dedicated gaming platform.

If he wants a dedicated console to play games and a laptop for other things that's well within his rights - since that's what he was looking for in the first place.

And so he is right in his his assertion that a console is cheaper than a PC. He is also right that he has the right to purchase whatever he wants without fanboy reprisals.

Honestly, the level of elitism on this site is appalling.
I don't know what conversation you read, but he said he bought a laptop for $800 and said he couldn't game on it. We told him he got ripped off. We're not being elite or stuck up, you are by attacking us.

EDIT: Edited the quote to reflect what was PMed to me and what I responded to. Nice job editing the original post.

Actually, go back to page 1 - I'll wait.
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/9.409285.17118745

Which was then met with this:
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/9.409285.17118816

Followed up by:
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/9.409285.17118918

Then the first mention of laptop prices here:
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/9.409285.17118974

Then you enter the fray, compounding the issue.

So it actually took several snarky and unwarranted responses to get to where you claim the conversation starts.
It's a symptom of much greater problem in the Escapist though, which I hope disappears soon.
Point me to the post where I was defending Morphingdragon's comment. Go on, I'll wait.

..

That's right, I didn't "compound" anything until this was said
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.409285-Poll-The-X-Bone?page=2#17119376

Where I responded to the one line about the price and the lack of functionality. Yes, you caught me, I'm the downfall of and everything that is wrong with this site.

The fuckup of a presentation doesn't really hurt (now that I know the kinect will work at close range, they weren't very clear on that), they could still so something really neat like say, making modding possible. But the stuff *outside* the presentation was a hell no, half the reason I went console last gen was acess to the used games market, without that well, I still hate Windows (the other half) but if I change my mind and don't get a PC Sony and Nintendo will still be there.

Hey, I'm holding off on a definite opinion until E3. I think everyone else should, too. Until we see the exclusives, there's no call for jumping the gun.
You! Take your rational thoughts and leave the internets! There is no place for your kind here!

Or in other words, I agree. Personally, I was going to try to get through my un-played games library before deciding anything one way or the other. By that time all the info will be out and the price will probably be somewhat more bearable for whatever I want to purchase.

I won't be purchasing an Xbone as when it comes to gaming I'm looking for an actual console, not some tv streaming, social media orientated spy box which just happens to play games, and even then only if you have an internet connection and brought the game new. After all, the dirty peasants who can't afford new games just aren't welcome at this party...

Wasn't really interested to begin with and I'm partial to playstation myself but until I see something truly irresistible for it, I'll stick to PC.
