I'll agree that yahtzee has literally taken over cyberspace from no-where. I personally like his straight forward approach on things that make games bad. You don't get any of this "the camera system was a little tricky to learn, but with a bit of work... blah blah" yahtzee will tell you its shite, because of the fact that camera positioning in a similar game worked fine.

Rarely do i disagree with his reviews. I don't really listen to his mmorpg or jrrrpg reviews in a serious way because, he hates them. I don't care for many of em, but yahtzee could not hate them much more. So slightly biased reviews on that score.

When it comes to yahtzee, I feel like he reviews a game in the eyes of a gamer, and not of a developer. Some reviews ramble about things that you will never notice through a game, and how certain things didn't work, but from a development point of view, they couldn't work. Yahtzee plays it, and tells you what was good, and what wasn't. Then to add to that, he brings in humour. It's a winning combination, and i hope people don't get bored of him, because these reviews actually speak my language.

Love Yahtzee... His intelligence and wit is only overshadowed by his honesty. I have played most of the (360) games that he's reviewed and agree with everything the guy has to say. Mucho Respecto.

He is a great "funnyman" and I love his work but planning an elaborate assassination does sound like a lot of fun. (I picked He's funny, I'm a regular of ZP.)

I'm a ZP regular but I've also checked out fullyramblomatic.com

-and yes, ZP is amazing and all, but, I do think he is still overrated, people act like he invented humor or something.

I have not idea why people think that ZP will not exist in the future. I love Triumph the Insult Comic Dog and I think there isn't enough of either.

The thing about ZP I really enjoy is the fact that he tells it how it is. In each game he's reviewed and I've played he's been on the money every time. I welcome his opinion and hope this entertaining review stays with us for a long time.

As many others I found TE via a link to ZP, and although there are lots of good articles ZP is still what I like best.

I can watch his reviews over and over again and I laugh just as much every time.
My taste in games is a bit similar to his, so I've never been offended by anything he's said. At least not as I can remember.
The best part here though is not what he's saying, it is how he's saying it.
What he says doesn't have a lot to say when I choose which games to buy, except for Psychonauts. I'd never heard about it before and when he mentioned setting fire to squirrels I decided that it was a must.

Hell, he?s the only reason I started poking around the Escapist, reading the articles, posting on the forum? all of it. I might not agree with some of his criticism of games but I can see where he?s coming from most of the time and generally find his videos entertaining. Actually that?s an understatement; I think his reviews are utterly fantastic and can?t wait for the next one each week.

What I don't really get is why people can get so worked up about a review that they disagree with. Come on, it's just a review of a game.
I'm not always on the same page as his reviews, but lifes to short to get pissed over a game. It's not like his calling my girlfriend a skank or something like that. It's just games and the reiveiws are great fun even when you don't agree.

I don't know him. How am I supposed to know if I like him or not? I think he's funny, but that doesn't mean I think he's a great person.

Looking at him weith tthe hat really made me lose all respect for him. The man looks like a chimp.
Really, it was his appreance that put you off him? Surely that couldn't have been the deciding factor in your opinion.

And his writing isn't all that bad.
No, it was really the straw that broke the camels back. Its hard to take the opinion of someone who looks like that seriously.
Your joking....right. Its pretty shallow deciding to dislike someones writing because of their appearance. But judging by your other posts I think the true reason might be because he gave Uncharted a bad review.
The fact that he contradicts his own criticisms constantly within that review is also a factor, yes. That and his supposed reaction to Super Smash Bros Brawl seemingly just criticizing its whole point, as well as saying its bad because it sticks to the conventions of a fighter. All I know is that after looking at that online Hyper thing I lost a lot of respect. In hindsight, it probably was that.
You dislike him cause he won't like Smash Brothers? Dude, I love Brawl, one of my favorite games, and I cant wait for him to review it and give it the boot. It's just not his cup of tea, that's all. For me at least, I come in for the humor, nothing else.
No, didn't like. He imported it and is using Wii Freeloader. He claims the reason was that it was far too chaotic, and that you had to unlock Snake and Sonic. This seems groundless because the chaos is its main appeal, breaking up the usual fighing humdrum of block-kick-block-block-etcetera and making you be aware of everything that is happening, as well as leaving you to unlock characters is pretty much one of the fighting genres main staples.

And I should probably explain. The reason I was pissed at his Uncharted review wasn't cause it was a ps3 game, but because he just seemed hypocritical. He claims the game is boring and run of the mill, that it doesn't let off a single firecracker, yet he spends the first two minutes talking about how its a powder keg of racism. Either one of those is bullshit, or he's pulling the wool over our eyes cause Microsoft dangled a big fat cheque under his nose, meaning he's lost all his integrity. He also claims the plot seems ripped off from most adventure films, without realising that that is where the Adventure film genre was really started, and that vague shape of plot is pretty much standard, and its in the details (which he ignores) that the true story is told. Finally, he claims that it is at large ripped off from other games - Yeah, if you count "using cover" as something Gears of War invented, I guess they are real theives.
Dude, seriously, can you be anymore of a vain and pompous ass? The Brawl is understandable if you have a different opinion, but can you honestly say that the best way to judge someone by someone is how they look? Clive Barker is one of my occasional reads, do I care that he looks like a sweaty baboon? No, I enjoy the writing of it all, I also enjoy Terry Pratchett, who isn't exactly teh sex. And anyway, you only saw him ONCE, for a few seconds, it's not like he's staring at you the whole time, is it? I also heard the podcast he did with his friends, without a script he can be even funnier, and his opinions may differ from yours, and that's understandable, but you have to be stark raving mad to dislike him just because of his opinions, perhaps Yahtzee is a retro gamer, and he isn't used to fighting games which don't follow the crowd, but you have to admit that even though he'll occasionally say he hates something I quite like (Mass Effect mainly), but I take it all in stride because only my opinions matter at the end of the day.

However funny Ser Yahtzee is, his criticism of most games (excluding MMORpagurs) hasn't and will not steer me away from buying or playing any game (excluding The Witcher.)

P.S. "Or more Brown Castle Two?"

Having not played the game, I'm not the best qualified to comment, but last time I checked racism isn't counted as a gameplay feature, which is what the fireworks line referred to. I looked on Wikipedia to find out the plot, and you have to admit that there's a lot of Indiana Jones in there, just jumbled up a bit. That said, many of the elements that appear in the Indy films are staples of the Pulp/Adventure genre, so I for one am willing to cut it some slack.

I don't recall Yahtzee at any point asserting that Gear of War inventing using cover, nor did he suggest that Prince of Persia invented jumping in games. What I inferred from that is that he felt the gameplay was sufficiently similar to Gears of War to warrant mentioning. Surely you've played a game int hat past and thought it was a lot like another game? It's not necessarily a bad thing, Mass effect is a lot like KotOR for example, but he clearly felt that Uncharted brought nothing new to the table, and thinking that way is his prerogative, just as your opinion on the game is yours.

To decry him as a sellout or an idiot seems a little harsh considering all that he did was post a bad review of a game you like.

I like Yahtzee and ZP. I'll admit, I found ZP through a blog (I think; my memory's really bad) and told quite a few friends, who also fell in love. He's got a great sense of humour, he's brutally honest, and, well, I like his particular brand of funny. Even if I don't agree with him, the way he presents is really entertaining, so I'll watch regardless.

I always check on Thursdays for the new ZP. So, that would mean 2nd choice.

If you don't like ZP, I suppose it's your loss, but, you're choice, and I'll respect it. Though Indigo, if you don't like Yahtzee 'cos of his appearance, you need to look at yourself man. That's not at all, for lack of better wording, nice.

Hmmm... I don't know whether to laugh at this thread or what. I think the poll questions are kinda ridiculous. People either like Yahtzee or they don't, you either find his reviews entertaining or you don't, but why should anyone care about what another thinks of them? Polls like this are kinda sad and discussion about reviewers and game developers as if they were a deity is much more sad.

...

Worst of all, half the people that watch ZP's probably watch them to hear him swear, while the few enjoy his wit, albeit rapier like wit and sharp delivery.
Something I dislike even more than useless polls are people who don't read the original post in threads and then comment on them.

I said the poll was pointless, and mainly for funsies. This thread isn't about loving Yahtzee, it's about how I think his bubble is about to burst and wanted to get other people's opinion. I'm sorry to say that this seems to have been missed, I was more looking for a discussion on internet trends than fan-baiting.

And I seriously doubt people watch the reviews to hear swear words.

One other thing is that I'm surpised to hear people say they actually take his reviews to heart. I love listening to them, they're funny, but they's absolutely no way I'd buy a game based on them. They're incredibly biased, and are drenched in the most disgusting brand of internet-nerd-elitism. Even if he does occasionally raise a good point or two, I think it needs to be kept in mind that it's just entertainment at the expense of a game most of the time.

I like Yahtzee's work, and ZP is a welcome part of my week.

That said, I am disappointed at the number of people who've decided to switch their brains off and just puke back whatever ZP tells them about games. Seriously, it's the man's personal opinion adjusted for comedic effect, not burning bush material; you don't get a Get Out of Hell Free card by parroting it back, verbatim, when discussing titles. However much I like ZP, I disagree with its conclusions a lot of the time; Yahtzee's taste in games is not mine.

I'm not asking that folks stop watching ZP; I'm just asking that they don't stop thinking for themselves.

I agree strongly. The amount of times I've seen the term console tard thrown around on this website alone now outnumbers the stars themselves. They clearly take what Yahtzee said and now thinks all console owners are retards. The ironic thing is that Yahtzee most likely owns all three consoles.

I also don't understand why, when Yahtzee gives a game a bad review they don't like they instantly claim he is wrong but when he gives a bad review to a game they hate (for god knows what reason) they think he's some form of god.

We know that Yahtzee owns all three, because he's reviewed games on all three.

But is it possible we're all getting a little too bent out of shape over this? I can appreciate that an influx of mouth-breathing, pre-pubescent devil-spawn is no one's idea of fun, but by continually harping on about how terrible it is that they're here and how this awful man has brought ruin upon us all isn't going to help. Just go about your business as you did before Zero Punctuation, the kiddies will soon get bored if no one rises to the bait.

I never said Yahtzee was in someway an "awful man". I was just commenting on how everyone takes his words and shape them for their own agenda.

I've been a fan of Yahtzee since I first saw Console Run down and I soon joined the forums to see whta all the fuss was about. then I realised that Escapist had much more to offer then Zero Punctuation and so far I havn't looked back. I think Yahtzee is a nice way to hook in readers. The Website graps you with a crazy english game reviewer and then feeds you with "the other stuff".

I was being more than a little facetious with my 'awful man' comment.

The internet is an egalitarian place, and sometimes you have to take the bad with the good, some people are more easily swayed than others, but the ones that hang on Yahtzee's every word like they were a direct pipeline to Jehovah are more than likely going to get bored and move on to more exciting climes. Those that hang around will either grow into good little Escapists, or they'll get banned.
