We all know that there's some talent among the users here. A lot of us would like to see that sometime, but, unfortunately, "advertising" your own videos or other things is against the rules. The rules say to keep your Youtube channel to your profile. And I get that, it's to keep "hey guys do you liek my video?" threads from popping up everywhere. But, it's a little too much regulation. I was actually just listening to the latest podcast, and they were taking about how Diablo 3's auction house, where what is usually black-market-like trading and exploitation will be controlled by Blizzard, is a lot like the argument for legalizing drugs, the whole "it'll be there anyway, so it would be better for nearly everyone to keep it well regulated". The same thing could be used for sharing user content, except good things come from sharing content. So it's a win-win for everyone.
Well, only if (and the entire point of the thread) there was a dedicated section of the forums for it. Then all the users can be free to put their talent on display without ever interrupting people who don't care. Restricting it to the profile does work, but for the people who are interested in discovering interesting channels, well, nobody goes browsing through random people's profiles to see their Youtube channels. And if you do (yes, you personally), you're the only one.
For example, I never knew about our very own Miracle of Sound until a user linked me to one of his Youtube videos in a semi-related thread. And most people here didn't know about him until he got his own official series here. That makes me want to climb to the top of a mountain and scream for justice. He was a user here for a good while, and starting releasing his first videos in late 2010. I had no idea until earlier this year, and now I wish I could've known earlier. There could be dozens of people who deserve our attention, but the forum rules keep them from getting it.
Hell, we already have the ridiculously successful "The artist in thee" thread. Seeing how that turned out, you could bet tons of people would visit a sharing board.
And I'm sure there aren't any glaring technical issues in adding another board.
