We all know that there's some talent among the users here. A lot of us would like to see that sometime, but, unfortunately, "advertising" your own videos or other things is against the rules. The rules say to keep your Youtube channel to your profile. And I get that, it's to keep "hey guys do you liek my video?" threads from popping up everywhere. But, it's a little too much regulation. I was actually just listening to the latest podcast, and they were taking about how Diablo 3's auction house, where what is usually black-market-like trading and exploitation will be controlled by Blizzard, is a lot like the argument for legalizing drugs, the whole "it'll be there anyway, so it would be better for nearly everyone to keep it well regulated". The same thing could be used for sharing user content, except good things come from sharing content. So it's a win-win for everyone.

Well, only if (and the entire point of the thread) there was a dedicated section of the forums for it. Then all the users can be free to put their talent on display without ever interrupting people who don't care. Restricting it to the profile does work, but for the people who are interested in discovering interesting channels, well, nobody goes browsing through random people's profiles to see their Youtube channels. And if you do (yes, you personally), you're the only one.

For example, I never knew about our very own Miracle of Sound until a user linked me to one of his Youtube videos in a semi-related thread. And most people here didn't know about him until he got his own official series here. That makes me want to climb to the top of a mountain and scream for justice. He was a user here for a good while, and starting releasing his first videos in late 2010. I had no idea until earlier this year, and now I wish I could've known earlier. There could be dozens of people who deserve our attention, but the forum rules keep them from getting it.

Hell, we already have the ridiculously successful "The artist in thee" thread. Seeing how that turned out, you could bet tons of people would visit a sharing board.

And I'm sure there aren't any glaring technical issues in adding another board.

I'm in full agreement, and it's not just because I'm an attention whore who's made a few videos and needs validation of my work to feel any sort of semblance of self worth.

It's mostly because of that, but not entirely.

I think it would be awesome to share my band's music, the most awesome, most technical, most musical music ever.

I'd likely lurk all over the place.

Mostly to find videos of people I disagree with so I can get a nice sense of righteous indignation and feel smugly superior.

To open my mind to all the wonderful opinions out there and expand my horizons.

I agree with this due to being disciplined for trying to share a friends music making and spur a discussion about sharing music which, imo, is simply ridiculous.
I know there's a need to stop viral advertising but simple sharing of artistic creation should not be frowned upon.

I'm all for it, because then I could share my site's web series "Senseless Thinking: Out Loud"

I assume this isn't advertising because it's OT.

This would be a really good idea if the spambots didn't completely flood the forum. It might require a more intensive moderation than the other forums, maybe that's why it's not been done?

Why don't you try pitching it to the Ideas for the Escapist [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Ideas-for-The-Escapist] group? That would be the best idea for getting feedback from staff.

My personal opinion though it that while it's a good idea. I can see it failing though egotistic forum members and trolls spamming "LOOK AT MEEEE!"

I might use it, but I would look at it. I think people should be able to plug their own stuff somewhere, and having a forum for it would be a nice way to keep it all contained.

People could lurk on teh juice details about the game I'm working on, which will completely mix all of the cool shooter online concepts, like a buy system, class system, and so forth... health doesn't regen either.

Didn't know about that. I'll try it.

OT: Well, not really OT, but it looks my last post taught a few people this.

It's an idea that is often discussed but can be abused very easily. You'd see a large influx of Youtube users posting their videos with little interest being generated and the decent material being buried under...what is essentially spam.

There are plenty of channels for creative content, from groups, to specific threads, to the User Review forum. I don't think the community can maintain a full forum though without it being diluted by spammers etc.

However feel free to suggest the idea.
