This is, by far, the scariest thing I have seen in a long long time. So in Australia they have a spider (golden orb weaver, NOT a tarantula) that can make a web that's strong enough to catch birds, then it destroys the bird by eating it. This could only be more epic if it killed the bird by tea bagging it to death.

As you can see in the picture, the spider is clearly the size of a small car. This isn't a one time deal either, the people who owned this home have seen this spider kill AGAIN.

The only interaction I have seen in my country between spiders and birds is when a bird is hungry it will chomp the spiders down whole. So when I saw the picture, I crapped my pants so hard I blew a hole in the bottom of my chair.

People often ask why I own guns, now all I have to do is show a picture of this spider and it practically justifies itself. Watch "Starship Troopers" look at the similarities of body color and shape.

How do you live in Australia anyway? Your bug zappers are probably 16 ft tall Tesla coils with 60,000 volts running through them.
When I go to Australia will they let me bring a handgun and a thermite grenade?
Most of us have no guns and rarely even pick up a stick.

We are THAT bloody hardcore.

Ha, I live in Australia, trust me, you very very rarely see spiders. Truth is we make too much noise and scare them. Last 2 spiders I saw were huntsmen, non-venemous spiders (Though intimidating because their legspan is bigger than your hand), but when I was reading in bed and I saw one 30cm from my face, I did do the whole "OSHIT GET OUT OF BED WTF WTF" thing. But yeah, that was like 3 years ago.
Not true, there are hundreds of smaller spiders I find, I once had a family of spiders in my father's car.

I used to live just below Cairns, spiders get pretty damned big there but they aren't the worlds largest.

I'm not sure where Baggie lives but I see spiders often, usually white tails or red backs, both are fairly dangerous as far as spiders go. North Queensland is home to the Irikangi, the Fierce snake and some of the worlds largest salt water crocodiles.

Pro tip: Don't go swimming in muddy rivers, don't bother with the bug spray unless it burns your skin and urinating on a sting from an irikangi jellyfish is probably the only way to avoid screaming agony for hours.
Ah, a fellow former-Cairnsian! We seem a rarity 'round here.

No way thats a Golden Orb Weaver, i did an excursion in primary school on orb weavers and those ones were about as big as a credit card.

Someone must be feeding that thing dog food.

...Freak earthquakes, dust storms that blot out the sun and now spiders that could probably flip tanks if properly motivated...

Damn, God does NOT want Australians to live, does he? It's all Atkin's fault, I tells ya!

Well I can safely confirm thats from one of my nightmares.

Though really I bet that thing is less dangerous to humans than redbacks...Which are pretty tiny. And evil. EVIL I SAY.

Ugh sorry, I'm a total arachnaphobe, I really do try to like spiders but when confronted, I freeze like a deer in headlights.

well if you like things getting pwned, there's always this story about a mouse biting a snake to death http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/earthnews/3353107/Mouse-bites-snake-to-death.html
Mighty mouse DOES exist. *sparkly eyes*

Clearly there are too many birds in Australia.

Or you can go with the alternative theory and say that God made them to spite us.

huh... i never knew they ate birds, just thought they made pretty golden webs xD

and there's scarier wildlife than that. how about funnel web spiders? the deadliest spider in the world, whose favourite habitat happens to be sydney.
they hide in shoes and nooks of houses, are very agressive and can kill a man 40 minutes after being bitten.
oh, also, they can live up to 20 years, stay alive under water for up to 24 hours, and build freaking trip wires outside their nests.

My best friend had a big fear of seeing this shit in Australia. He went there for 2 years and didn't see any of it. And he didn't just stay in the major urban cities either. He did farming in the real rural areas also and still saw nothing.

As someone stated before, it's over-exaggerated.

meh, spiders aren't a problem where we live. occasionally we'll find a harmless house spider and put it outside, no harm done. i've seen redbacks once or twice, but honestly, your life's not in danger. if you do see a spider, just be careful to make sure it's not dangerous before touching it. i'd be more worried about living in a city and getting mugged than spiders.
