Even though i haven't seen any 3d movies, i think it's going to be just a bit of a fad. I cant really concieve how it would actually improve the veiwing experience. I think I'll just hold out for the holograms.

I really hate 3D movies. They ruin potentially good movies because for some reason the directors change filming angles and make insignificant action, like throwing a gun to a partner in a fire fight, some amazing thing...Its not and I'm sorry it just annoys me. Avatar did it well because 3D didn't hold it, it used the story, acting etc, 3D was an addition.
Every movie that tried to do the same failed and it annoys the hell out of me. It seems to be dying down now though.

I went to Hoyts (Australia) to see Voyage of the Dawn-treader 3D, $23.50, and 'sorry, no concession discounts for 3D' WHY THE HELL NOT?! I thought $20 would be more than enough for at least a movie ticket, turns out my friends and I could only just afford to get us all in with the cash we had. and the 3D wasn't that great... wasn't worth the extra $10

Doesn't work for me. My astigmatism is far too severe. That said, it's a fad from the 50s with a few technological updates that's making yet another ridiculous comeback. To anyone who actually thinks this is a "new" thing... it's not. This is just the same old gimmick with a few tweaks and a new package.

3D film won't be worth a damn until it's entirely holographic.

There's an essay that Walter Murch, probably the greatest film editor ever sent to Roger Ebert that put the final nail in 3D's coffin.

I can't find the link I used before, but I'm sure if you google it you'll get something.

I hate 3D movies, or anything that FORCEFULLY try to use 3D as a selling point. Movies like Avatar was an OK usage of the 3D technology, as it does really shine out and intentionally use 3D technology to show its unique properties and bridge deeper elements of the movie itself. While pitiful movies that forcefully uses 3D just so they can jump onto the hype wagon like Clash of the Titans is just... No. Just no.

In my opinion, 3D also impairs the quality of the movie itself, sometimes I just felt 3D is just meant to show off the technology and adds no redeeming value to the movie itself. What it adds is just searing eye pain. Especially if you wear glasses, then you also have to wear the 3D glasses itself on top of it. Practical? no.

I suppose right now the technology is in transition before it can become perfect 3D. Until that time comes,I would have to say I find it hard to really appreciate 3D movies.
