It seems to be a vocal minority that opposes this concept.

The joke is not, that the 1950's had it wrong, it is that the perpetuation of blind self endeavor leads to catastrophic results.

Why is that funny? I don't know, why is that funny?

I do not know much of the cannon of the Fallout universe, however I am pretty sure it is mostly propaganda.

Japan having been bombed before not prepared for it to happen again...not likely.

If you read my earlier posts in this thread, you know I promote a Fallout game in Japan. I feel that present day Japan is a more relevant to the fallout universe than the source material. No I am not saying disregard the original Fallouts. What I am saying is, that Japan is currently going through the same type of national decision making realities that the U.S.A. had to in the 50's. And to be quite honest the U.S. is going through again today.

I can imagine pip-boy being replaced with kabuki-girl, and the ascetics are awesomely on par.

This is the perfect time for this franchise to show that mirror of satire, because isn't that why it's funny?

Didn't it have a point?

Would I play it fuck yeah I love fallout but I think it kinda misses one of the central themes in the later games Fallout 3 and NV mostly but it was in the older games as well and that is the idealised AMERICAN future of the 1950's in the aesthetics and world.
I do think it could work if we travelled to another part of the globe but the US has so many other parts that can be explored that it's not really necessary yet.

If Bethesda does make fallout: *Insert country here*, then they could give it a fresh start. I loved fallout, but the appeal to me was looking at all these new factions and how they survived. On top of that, if they set it in a completely new place, with new everything, then Bethesda cannot possible screw up existing lore, which is one of the main complaints of the Bethesda Fallout games. This way, everyone is happy.

On the other hand, I do enjoy diving into the vaults and finding out what experiment was being conducted, as well as the 50s America Feel.

What if stories began emerging about a technological utopia,in Japan perhaps (a wasteland made up of islands would be very interesting), that caused factions from around the planet to travel there. That way you can, not only, have existing fallout factions (Enclave, NCR, BoS) to have a presence there, but completely new factions as well (Reborn Coalition of Soviet Nations, The Otaku Guild, The Emperor's Finest, etc).
