Music is defined as a collection of sounds put together in such a way as to please or displease the ear. You didn't like it? That means it's music. Your argument is invalid.

Going to bed now, before I start arguing with everyone who says mean things about my beloved Metal.

I don't understand why there are so many sub-genres of metal. It doesn't make sense to me. I listen to the metal I think sounds cool and has meaning behind it. I don't care if its black, melodic, death, core, etc. Some people obviously think I'm a retard for thinking this, but I like different sounds. I can't listen to one type of metal for a long time- it gets stale and I don't want to ruin the music.

Anyone else hate explaining the differences between scream-o and metal?

I like it until it gets to the point where on the drums all you can hear is the double bass, the guitarists have no idea what they are playing, and the vocalist just does a low pitched growl the whole song.

I hate this kind of "metal"
Not at all. There is a lot going on which is well done and accomplished in this. They aren't however, the most complex of DM bands out there. Perhaps the drums didn't need to be so overpowering. The guitarists certainly DO have an 'idea what they are playing', but I concur that the vocals are something that I don't really like.

Here is some fantastic DM:

My vast metal collection has one genre on my Zune (sorry! (^_^; ): 'Heavy Metal'. I don't care for all the over-sorting either.

Well, that's his opinion. Even though it's wrong, he has his right to it.......... By the way, DREAM THEATER FOR THE WINZORZ

I agree with the first guy......... Death Metal takes way more skill with almost every instrument than other genres...... Like *pukes* Pop
You are kidding me right? More skill? I dont know if I should dive into this subject, because it will just result in flaming, but I gotta get this out.

Vocals: Rawr rawr rawr rawr rawr. If you can understand one word of any song like that the first time through, I commend you.

Guitar. Repetitive 2 to three chords, just shredded very fast.

Bass: see above

Drums: One of the only almost bearable part to it, but with waaaaay to much bashing on a symbol. A friend of mind in a band like this once told me if he forgets a few lines, he hits on any random drum or symbol piece and no one knows the difference.

I can see why people might like it, and sometimes I'm in the mood, but generally... no... not really.

I love Death Metal for its instrumental Side, there aren't too many Death Metal vocalists i really like.
Though some bands like Cannibal Corpse and Opeth (i suppose the 2nd bands genre is open to opinion) have great vocalists. Gotta' love some Hammer Smashed Face in the morning :D
Or use it as an alarm tone like I did for a while. Honestly, it works beautifully. Then after a while it stops working and I sleep through it so I just change it to another song like Make Them Suffer, Decency Defied or The Chosen Legacy by Dimmu Borgir. I remember using Slaves Shall Serve by Behemoth for a while too.

Says somebody with clearly little to no experience with the genre. It isn't even worth trying to explain it to you. You clearly have you mind set against it, or desire an argmement. And speaking of repetition, metal is certainly not the genre for it. Can you play music?

Metal is an addiction to me. I soon become desensitized to it and need something heavier. After Cannibal Corpse doesn't do it for you, where do you go?
But to answer your question: Yes, I fucking love metal;I prefer thrash metal, but I still like death metal. I use it to scare people. It never stop being funny.

Let's see. Any idiot with half a brain and knows two notes on a guitar and can just scream can make death metal. So yeah, I think that portrays my feelings on that subject.

The only band I give any credit to is Mudvayne, but that is because they actually have a little thing called talent.
And a sample of the top 40 charts would show that 'any idiot' who knows a few chords can write a punk or rock song. Anybody who knows the Blues progression can write a song. ANybody with one of those waveform manipulators can generate a dance song.

Anybody with money and equipment can make a movie. Anyone with time, effort and a sellable idea can write a successful book.

Any 'idiot with half a brain' can see that your points in this thread show not so much a desire to converse and learn further on this topic, but to bludgen us with your rigid definitions and conclusions.

One of the examples of better Death metal. It isn't to my taste, but I can bear it, unlike most genres.

This song has no "rawr rawr rawr," no repetitive 2-3 chords, and no bashing on the symbols.

Awesome :D
Ive been using Walk by pantera for ages now, before that it was Conquer all (behemoth) ironically enough. I should probably change it, something like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6-3kN_tRlA should wake me up nicely on a morning, and scare children on the bus when people call me :p double win.

Ah alright then. At least you said it isn't to your taste there, which I'm fine with, but I get really annoyed when people say it takes no talent and is just screaming and stuff like you did in your earlier post.

That was awesome by the way. All that mindless screaming, simplistic guitar work, caveman drumming. It was awesome!

I am not deafly shouting out opinions about songs I have never heard before. I have heard most of these popular metal songs from time to time.

The music in almost all genres has gone to shit. This is no exception. I never see the appeal to this music. Most of it sounds the same to me.

I really miss the 90s.
