Blair was a relatively good Prime Minister. He was an excellent speaker, and, although people might point the finger at Labour for the current economic downturn, people are quick to forget the years of prosperity we had beforehand.

I attribute the downturn to Thatcher's/Reagan's children who were taught to get as much money as they could as quickly as they could without looking more than 5 minutes in front of their faces.

Don't forget, during those 'years of prosperity' (created on the back of an out-of-control finance industry and the biggest housing price bubble in living memory) they also sold/privatised anything not nailed down. But even despite that they still couldn't balance a budget, so increasing the national debt greatly.

And despite spending so much money, we don't even have anything to show for it. (except failing targets/stats obsessed NHS, councils and education system.)

And thats before you even start mentioning the horrors of blindly following America into wars, the horrible expences mess (they certainly didn't lift a finger to stop it) and also enforcing a surveillance state on the UK

I simply can't think of the right words to explain how much i hate what labour (and so Blair/Brown) have done to the country.
Sad thing is, the main opposition (tories) are going to be very similar when they get in power (as Labour spent the past decade ineptly trying to copy them).

*sigh*
At least the USA has two main parties with differing views, we don't even get that anymore.

I don't really hate the man. He did some good with the NHS, minimum wage, work with Northern Ireland and increased funding for education, but the wars he took us into lowered my opinion of him slightly.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but Blair became a Catholic after leaving power, didn't he? How would that play out, if he were to become president of the EU?

Blair was bad but IT CAN ALWAYS GET WORSE.

Right now the BNP is gaining in the polls in England. If you dont know who the BNP are, their political platform can be described as halfway between the government in 'V for Vendetta', and the government from 'Children of Men.'

The EU is corrupt because no one scrutinises, no one scrutinises it through general lack of diplomatic involvement. More people being involved would hopefully shed more light onto the workings of the system and clean it up a little. With more scrutiny, people would become better able to trust the EU more, and so scepticism would be reduced.
I completely agree, the EU needs to be more democratic so its politicans become more accountable and reflect the views of the European people. (So less moves towards a federal state, and less regulation)This would lead to less corruption, and more popular policy ideas. The Lisbon Treaty sets out plans for an EU president, as well as a voting system to go with it- which to me is the step in the right direction- a democratic direction.

I quite liked Blair, good speaker, did a lot of good things, his only really big mistake being to pander to an idiot that wasn't actually elected by the American people, like a spineless coward who was content to be lead around as if on a leash. I think it'd be great to have a charismatic British speaker as the head of a largely useless organisation.
Fixed. Sorry to the Blair lovers out there.
You're not sorry at all, you filthy liar.
I guess you got me there.

I've gotten over it (mostly) and I don't want to start anything, but wasn't he the one that encouraged bombing of serbia/yugoslavia?

I'm just waiting for the day when the EU becomes their own supernation, oil runs out, and Russia begins to re-militarise. Then EndWar will begin!

No apology to the people who like Bush and appreciated the fact that his strategy to isolate and pressure Iran worked perfectly, resulting in an attempted revolution there? If Bush was stupid, it was like a fox. No idiot could do any of the things he did.

1) I'd be surprised if he actually got the position
2) I suspect a rogue sniper will take him out before he can pass his first law

He's completely untrustworthy.

Oh, I so hope he doesn't become that...
The ultimate insult was when he became "Middle-Eastern Peace Envoy" *spits*

What is the EU President anyway!?!?! But he really shouldn't be allowed in, the corrupt fuck.
The world has been insane since long before you were born, friend. EU president is a small worry when the world will soon be so overpopulated that people die left, right and center.

1) Let's hope so.
2)He was working as an ambassador in the Middle East. You'd think that someone would already have done it.

So is he going to replace Barroso? Cause he was 10 times worse than Blair.

Blair did something. Wrong or Right he did stuff during Prime Minister of the UK...Now Barroso didn't do anything at all during his stay of PM in Portugal.

And by nothing I literally mean nothing.

Also was he really that bad? Then again its Britain you just elect people so you can hate them later and laugh at them even if they did a good job. Like Churchill.
