Uhhh this poll seems kind of pointless. Who would honestly say games don't need creativity? This is a good discussion but is the poll necessary?
Shatnershaman would, and has.
Lulz. Bioshock was good, but I expected it to achieve the greatness of System Shock 2, but it dumbed it down SO MUCH.

inFamous looks fucking awesome. The world seems so dynamic and flexible.

I'm holding out for White Knight Chronicles myself;

I myself haven't seen enough on White Knight Chronicles to put it above inFAMOUS (I'm still not sure which is the corret one, inFamous or inFAMOUS). Its still damn high, though.
I like the combat system in White Knight, it's so innovative.

I voted NO :)

If you want innovation in movies, go see an art house, not an hollywood
If you want innovation in music, go listen some dunnowhatsitcalled, don't tune in to mtv
If you want innovation i games, go play something indy, don't buy a next-gen console title

Popular stuff doesn't need creativity...

Kind of like Third Life, a game inside of Second Life.
Actually now you mention it I was working on a project like that before I left second life. Kinda like internet 4.0 I guess.

Oh for the love of Christ...

BIOSHOCK.
...was, from what I hear, a straight port of another game.
Very, very similar to System Shock series. But not a STRAIGHT port. They made it far more FPS in its mechanics.

there's only so much you can do and most game companies can't afford to try new concepts so they have to make games that will allow them to continue selling games, so we can't realistically expect every game to try something new.
Yes but when it gets to the point and number that final fantasy is at now, you really need to think about starting a new franchise. The final fantasty games aren't even linked to each other in any way though, so calling them sequels isn't really accurate.seroiusly, square, call the next final fantasy something else, also EA cant afford to make new games? they can only afford to make the same sports games and sims over and over?Spore is the most original game to come out of there in at least 5 years

That is such a sad statement. I am not going to deny that it is the way things are but it is still sad. It is like the they are saying the majority is to stupid to appreciate a new idea. I can't say with any certainty that the majority can or can't but they should be given a chance to try.

Oh dear.

Ohhh dear.

Please, do us all a favour, and take a look at the way the entertainment business works. Then roll out the threads discussing originality.

Also, what the fuck? EA has put out plenty of games aside from sports and sims and plenty of them were original, at least in their title. How ignorant can you be?

It's not that there's no creativity, its that creativity doesn't sell. If people are going to buy every Madden and every rehash of Call of Duty, then that's what publishers are going to make.

I believe this has more to do with 'where do you want to spend time on'?

I like games & films a lot, so I can appreciate both the mainstream 'in the box' and the indy 'out of the box'. Maybe this last is, because I know that box so well.

I'm not that much into music for example, so I'm content just watching mtv. Why? because I don't feel the need to spend time on that to search for something else

I don't think they need to be more creative (except for FPSs), they just need to have a creative game that's good (I'm looking at you Assassin's Creed! Very creative game but they shat all over it).
