some FPS games feel so ridiculously easy compared to that stuff. Is it simply because we are trained to the "Go in there. shoot everything that isnt human/wears a different color uniform than you, and move on to the next building." mentality?
summary of mario: Go in here, jump on everything that isn't you, move on.
Try not being so condescending and nostalgic.
yes there are a lot of FPS games out there, with the success of titles like call of duty, and halo, why wouldn't there be? There is also almost every other genre of game imaginable, especially when you include the XBL/PSN marketplaces.
Lets think about the most popular games to come out recently: Red dead redemption, a free roaming 3rd person action game. Alan wake, a psycological thriller/ 3rd person shooter. Heavy rain a story based game fueled by quicktime events. Super mario galaxy 2, a 3rd person puzzle / action game. split second, skate 3, prince of persia etc.
see what i'm getting at?
small time game companies may be jumping on the fps bandwagon, but the only big fps titles are call of duty, halo, battlefield, and medal of honour.(i didn't include resistance or killzone since they haven't brought anything out recently)
