I learned to type by playing Call of Duty. It was a time when voice features were not integrated into games and you had to stand in a corner completely frozen until you typed your message. So you either had to learn to type extremely fast or don't even bother typing your message. In a warzone, you don't have time to look at the keyboard.

I learned by playing tfc.
I couldnt let my eyes away from the game due to its fast nature, so i had to type on the fly. After a few years, i got the hang of it.

I type 45 words a minute with two fingers, looking at the keye board. It looks really funny, my fingers fly every where. =P

If by touch type you mean not look at the keyboard, then yes I can.

This "skill" is a result of too many MMO's when I was younger.

The funny thing is, I don't do any of the homerow crap. My style of typing is technically a "Hunt And Peck" approach, but I know where everything, it's kind of hard to explain.

Needed to take a class for credits, and im on a block schedule, so that means an hour and 30 minutes of boring monotonous busywork but i guess it did the job.

Oh, if it's just typing without looking at the keyboard: That kind of came by itself over the years.
I still only use 8 fingers, though, my most lateral fingers are kind of useless for the job.
I don't notice any serious loss in speed because of it, though.

I can't touch type at all but I can type while looking at the keyboard insanely fast with very few typos. I've never really felt the need to touch type because I can type faster than most of my friends already. I'm just that damn cool.(sarcasmsarcasmsarcasm) Anyone who's seen me type says it looks really freaking weird. I look at the keyboard, but my left hand is going really freaking fast using all fingers with perfect accuracy, while my right hand hunts around using only my index finger. I'm a righty :p

I used to type 147 words per minute. I am only typing 89 now, but yes I learned to touch type in 2nd or 3rd grade in school.

I learned how to touch type in 7th grade. Our computer teacher was a hard-ass. He would chew our asses if we looked at the keyboard, and if we persisted, he would cover our keyboards with shoeboxes. I think I maxed out at about 60 wpm, but it's been a couple years since then. I actually think I make more mistakes when I look at my hands while typing.

EDIT: Wow, ninja'd

Not really. Since I've been typing more on the Escapist my typing is a lot faster & my spelling etc. is better, but I haven't really tried to touch type. It would be good to though, as when writing a wall o' text you could look at the screen and see if what you're typing makes sense; at the moment I'm still one of those who has to type a paragraph and then look at what I've typed afterwards. Having said that, there are times - although very rarely - when I get into the groove of typing and can find that I have been touch typing for a few lines or so - of course, once I realise that I've done that, it breaks all rhythm and I can't touch type for toffee after that.

well, i have to look at the keyboard, but i know where all the letters are.

i probably could learn to touch type if it weren't for the fact that i type one handedly.

I learned the basics in high school, I'm pretty good but I tend to take my time while typing to re-read what I've typed.
