PS3 is (for the moment at least) my prefered console, though it is about 3 weeks old where my xbox 360 is closer to 3 years, so that may be a factor.
Overall though, I'd say if you can't afford both, stick with the 360. A PS3 is somewhat pointless without an accompanying full HD TV and kickass sound system..Well, pointless may be a little harsh, but you are definately missing out on a lot of the appeal. The multiplatform games are generally better on xbox, the xbox has more exclusives (so it's more likely to have something that fits your tastes) and the controler shape is far superior (I don't really care if anybody disagrees with that, so don't bother contesting it), so yeah, I'd stick with the xbox if it was me (or, just save up and buy a ps3 as well really, that is what I did).
How in the hell does the X-Box have more exclusives?
Sorry... there's way more games exclusive to PS3. I'm not a fanboy of either console (though I do own a PS3, but the facts to me seem to be that the PS3 has alot more exclusives than the 360.
And that comment about the controller? I'd say you've just labelled yourself as a 360 fanboy in the eyes of this thread's posters.
Not too bothered by how I labell myself TBH (though anyone with any sense should instantly recignize that I am a shameless PC elitist, what with my consistant criticism of both consoles). However I do own both consoles and can make an informed decision as to which I prefer. Wikipedia claims that there are more xbox only games, though I suppose that isn't really a valid source so I do appologize if that's wrong. (
xbox 360 &
PS3). I guess I have more games on my PS3, but that's just because a lot of the big xbox 360 exclusives don't appeal to me (and I'm a whore for good sound, I got sexy speakers and PS3 has fibre optic output...*drools*).
I have hated the dual shock controller since first gen playstations and they were the
only factor that made me buy a 360 over the PS3 initially (Ok, and maybe I got shitty with Sony making promises about the tech that were completely untrue, but it was the main factor). I'd have prefered the boomerang controller to be honest, they are too small and frail feeling (I have large hands, children do not spend upwards of $500 on gaming consoles, I don't understand the need for such small controllers), and..I dunno, if they still feel unnatural after
3 generations of consoles using them, they should be redesigned. The xbox 360 controllers are actually ergonomic and fit comfortably in my hands without my struggling to reach buttons, the (left) analog sticks do not annoyingly rotate or get suck moving forwards as well, which is also nice (I've never seen a right dualshock analog stick fuck, not sure why :S). All 'round it is my prefered controller. Of course, the G25/7 steering wheels on playstation are so much better than the xbox effort it's hilarious, which brings me back to PC elitism, it is far better than either (awsome wheels as it gets g25/7, superior keyboard and mouse input as well as support for countless game controllers).
Despite what the general praise xbox live receives, it is without a close second the worst online service I'd ever had the misfortune of using before games for windows live visciously murdered Universe at war. Needless to say, even before I'd properly used PSN it was my preferance (and after I'd used it there was no doubt in my mind..I mean fuck microsoft, how about a file server that can support Australians with faster than fucking dial up speeds). If anyone wanted to play online and for some retarded reason could not get a PC, the PS3 would be the
only
Make no mistake, if the OP was asking whether the buy a new PS3 or a new Xbox 360, I would definately be recommending the PS3 (because of the solid upcoming exclusives and small collection of current exclusives I like). It is stupid, however, to trade in an xbox and a whole lot of games for a PS3, you are always going to lose money and get a console that, with a lot of multiplatform games, does not perform as well (this is somewhat countered by the better sound and video outputs of the PS3, but if you can't afford both consoles I doubt you can afford ~$1000 of home theatre equipment). All in, I really can't see how it would be worth trading in, just save your money for a month or two and buy one, it makes far more sense. If you've already played through all of the 180 odd Xbox exclusives (in which case you are rich and this thread is pointless) then by all means trade some games in for it, I just can't see it being a good decision to trade in a whole console and all it's games, you are going to be out of pocket most of the cost of a PS3 anyway.
