The return to plaid is pretty annoying. I only say this becasue I used to wear plaid a lot in an apparently vain attempt to be different. However I stopped when it became popular again. Come to think of it, the entirety of the seventies seems to be forcing its way back into culture, what with longer hair on boys, plaid, and even slight variations in music seem a bit more retro.

eh... idk plaid hasn't quite gone the way of skinny jeans quite yet, I bought some not too long ago and I like them, but yeah... it's your whole viewpoint on things. I DONT listen to fallout boy and wear plaid because "ZOMG LOL I COULD TOTALLY BE POPULER NAO BECUZ I HAZ TRENDY CLOTHES!!!!!" I listen to them and wear it because I like them. Just rap. I don't like it, and I don't really understand how anyone can enjoy sitting in a headache-inducing exaggerated bass line for any amount of time, especially when that bass line is accompanied by lyrics which basically describe how to murder and/or rape hookers and other rappers. I just don't get it.

But people have opinions, and as long as there are two people on this Earth there will be differing opinions as well. While I prefer mellow music with good lyrics and soothing instrumentals, other people prefer screaming/swearing and the aforementioned obnoxious bass line. To each his own.


A point of clarification, of course: I don't hate the people who listen to rap (Except those who listen to rap and want to live like the lyrics say they should), I just hate rap.

I will refer you to my previous post on page four because it is obvious to me that you have expeirienced a very small portion of rap music.

Undoubtedly. But I'm pretty sure rap's main points are the exaggerated bass (Which I previously labeled as obnoxious and headache inducing) and the lyrics, and I honestly think that if I wanted rhyming lyrics I could read a poem or, better yet, write my own. I also prefer the lyrics in my music to be sung, not spoken. That's why I listen to music, for the good instrumentals and lyrics I can understand (Usually) and potentially sing or hum along to (Usually making a fool of myself in the process, but that doesn't really bother me). I don't want to sit in my car attempting to speak as fast as I can. And that is kind of what rap is. I know it's not all fast talking, and I know it's not all obscenities and violence, but it is not my cup of tea. You aren't going to change that by telling me some rappers are actually "lyrical wordsmith geniuses." Rap is loud and annoying in my opinion, the polar opposite of my favorite genres. In fact Clair de Lune (Amazing piano piece btw, it's in Ocean's Eleven and it is simply incredible. Probably my favorite piano piece I've heard) is basically a complete opposite, so you can see where I'm coming from when I tell you rap is not my style, not by a longshot.

I'm not saying that you have to like rap I'm just trying to show you that not all rap is like the stereotypes that you see in the mainstream media. Don't think I'm trying to convert you, I'm just saying don't go bashing a genre you have a very limitted experience with.

Can we please just stop hating on rap, please? It's not as shallow a genre as people think it is. I will admit that all of the mainstream stuff is about "dat money an dem bitches", but that is actually only a small percentage of rap music that is out there. Most of it actually has a positive message. I don't listen to the shallow rap, only the rap with a message. I have heard plenty of rap songs about respecting women, taking responsibility for your mistakes, and the cold hard realities of gang life. The reason you don't hear about these songs is because they are not what sells, the "guns an hoes" songs are what sells, which says more about our society as a whole than about rap culture. Will Smith has very positive rap, and try listening to Tupac's (yes Tupac) song "Changes". The Game is a very real rapper. Anyone who has ever been the ghetto knows that it is not a pretty place and they do not want to go back to that life once they get out of it (which is very hard to do). Also, don't make judgements based on a very limmited experience of a genre. I listen to some Metal and Punk Rock, but I don't try to claim that I am an expert on either genre (I do have an apreciation for both though). I don't listen to just rap though, I also listen to rock, alternative, reggea, latin, classical music, classic rock, country, techno, electronic, and Jack Johnson (I don't know how to classify him).

I can agree that some of Tupac's songs are good.
