i strongly dislike turn based. Part of what i'm good at in RTS games is psychologically abusing my opponent. I find that hard to do in turn based games. However, i like non competitive turn based games, typically SRPGs.

Welcome the the escapist.

I enjoy both types as long as the game itself is well made.

I think both are nice, but I would like an RTS with the ability to pause and issue (multiple) orders (which kind of makes it not-realtime, but also not turn-based).

I like real time more, becasue everything you do in real time feels urgent, you may be waiting for enough gold/wood/power to create a barracks, when an enemy attack arrives you have to be on your toes at all times, whereas you know you're safe while it's your turn in turn based games.

Equal. My favourite strategy games are the Total War games. Nice blend of RTS and TBS.

I don't think anybody seriously chooses tbs over real time, unless they found a great rpg game.I did only recently,so I can't decide.
I tend to play Civ4 more than I do Dawn of War. Recently i've been playing plenty of MechCommander2, but mostly for the nostalgia factor.

Depends on the platform. I like Turn Based better on handhelds, and Real Time on PC, both for obvious reasons.

okay I'm new to these forums, and I couldn't find a thread like this. So I'm wondering what you think about this.
Hi, welcome to the escapist forums, I actually dont mind either. Grid turn based should also be included as one of the options because Disgaea rocked.

The only thing I find annoying but very bearable is the fact that I cant imagine characters going "ok, Ill hit him, now its his turn to hit me... ouch. Ok, my turn..."

I like either one. I honestly prefer that combat be real time, but some games that follow the turn-based strategy and real-time battle work just fine, and some games with turn based combat are good enough I don't care.

I like stuf like Final Fantasy Tactics, but I also don't mind things like Majesty or Battle for Middle Earth. (Though, in truth, I haven't played either genre in a long while.)

Depends on the game, but if it's a military sim of any type. I want turn based.
As well RPG's, your giving action to a party you need time. And no I don't like a computer that makes 3 million actions a nanosecond getting one up on me cause I have to use a mouse.

Look at X-com, RTS ruined that game completely.

I prefer RTS. The Dawn of War series is my favorite. Though, I've never actually played the tabletop TBS game that it was based on. Perhaps I should reserve my judgment?

Nah, I still like RTS.

Real time because you I like controlling the battle in real time instead of just thinking for ten minutes and doing my move.

It depends on how detailed the information you have to make decisions is, and how important it is to maximize the outcome to your advantage. i.e. Fire Emblem has to be turn based, because it is bad to lose even one unit. Starcraft, on the other hand, is often about throwing hordes of units at each other, and micromanaging them (at a turn based level) would be ridiculous.

I'm kinda on the fence with TBS and RTS games. I do enjoy them from time to time, but it's been probably 2 years since I've played a game from either genre, perhaps even more. Heck, one of the first games I owned for the computer was Command and Conquer: Tiberian Sun.
