11 out of 24.
Although I am a Gov/Pol student, so I knew some of the answers due to school.
Still failed though.

It's funny how most of you Brits couldn't pass a citizen test for your own country, but then are so quick to stick your nose up, and tell us about how little Americans know about their own history.

11/24 UK Citizen

I think its a fairly hard test but its nothing that can't be found out by studying for it, as opposed to stuff you learn by being around other UK citizens and living in the UK.

Damn failed, most of those questions seemed like parliamentary and political questions rather than general knowledge about Britain.

10. And I was born in england. Why is it important to know when the first census was done or how many muslims live in the uk?

I scored 12, my girlfriend scored 8. Both of us are citizens since birth...so this test is clearly ridiculous. I think as long as you have a decent command of the language of the country, you should be allowed in.
Yeah, this would be a better measure. Or maybe a more lax version of Australia's system, where you need certain skills to get in.

I honestly hate that quiz. I bet that most of the UK would be deported if this quiz was implicated.

Then again, it will solve all immigration problems.
This would be absolutely hilarious if the government implemented it. The irony of seeing the entirety of the English Defence League get kicked out of the country would definitely be worth it.

I failed with 15/24, however in my defence:

A) I hadn't studied for the exam, so over 50% is pretty good off the top of my head. I answered most of the general knowledge questions correctly, but failed on the facts and figures ones, since how would you really know (not guess) those without studying?

B) A few of the questions were vague, misleading open to interpretation or wrong When the questions uses the word "usually", that doesn't mean that only one answer will be right (e.g many job application will usually ask for proof of ID and NI Number as well as a CV... there's part of the form where you fill in your name, address and NI Number. Also bribery, hiding and calling the Police are all ways in which you "might" deal with Trick or Treaters).

I got the important questions right and would have remembered the facts and figures had I ever learnt them, but it's all irrelevant as I'm a citizen by birth and by God given right.

My arrogant belief in my God given right to be British is worth more than any bloody minded test aimed at Johnny Foreigner.

Its hard, but you can learn it all out of a book, it should be around things you learn by living in the UK.

I don't live in the UK though, so that's forgiveable.
i got one more mark than you.
i'm from britain.

most of those questions are fucking bullshit. 'Ulster Scots'? seriously? that's a little offensive, because Gaelic and Scots have NOTHING TO DO WITH EACH OTHER!
and i'm fairly sure the Protestants were AGAINST the Catholic monarchy.

A work friend had to take that test and passed, but despite being born here, couldn't answer any of them, or at least very few. In fairness, most citizen quizzes are about the same...heard about the US version and it's pretty much on par.

I've tried taking the practice test a few times, and I've passed about half the time. (For the record, I'm not a UK native, but I've been living here for about four years now.) Some of the time you get reasonable questions like "What is Parliament?", but there are a few like the one I got once:

What percentage of the UK is of Chinese descent?

A. 0.3%
B. 0.4%
C. 0.5%

The correct answer, "D. Are you fucking kidding me?" was not an option.

Have you looked at the link in the OP?

Anyway- Americans know shit about their own history. I remember when one of my teachers gave the entire class the actual 100 question citizenship test for the US. We all flunked that shit so hard it physically pained our teacher.

I failed the test, but I kind of get the idea that the point isn't to make it something any British person could pass, but to make it something that a person has to do some work to pass, thus proving that they are willing to make an effort. It would be just as effective if they made it a test on The Simpsons or the history of badminton.

Aha, failed, 10 out of 24. As mentioned though, most of those questions are absolutely irrelevant! Last time I checked, not everyone in the U.K. was fully educated in our histroy to that level of detail. Weird.

And I really loved the Halloween one. Where's the choice for 'throw rocks at them'?

What about the Lowland Scots who migrated to Ireland to settle and work the Plantation of Ulster? I'm pretty sure they have something to do with the Irish Gaels, even if it's just by living in the same land.

Also, what about the Goidelic areas of Scotland? They have something to do with the Scots. Scotland wasn't all Pictish... most if it was Pictland I grant you, but the West of Scotland was Goidelic and shared roots with Ireland, so the connection between Gaelic and Scots is stronger than you may think.

TrilbyWill said:

The Protestants were against the Catholic monarchy, which is why our current Protestant Monarchy aren't allowed to marry anyone who isn't a Protestant, to prevent a Catholic ever becoming eligible for the throne.

You should learn a bit about the history of Britannia before calling "fucking bullshit" on established historical fact.
