Maybe you should make your own thread and see if Americans can actually do better than us Brits...you've sort of missed the point.TheVioletBandit said:It's funny how most of you Brits couldn't pass a citizen test for your own country, but then are so quick to stick your nose up, and tell us about how little Americans know about their own history.
One day they're going to mix up the test papers and no-one will be able to tell the difference. Although the concept of being tested on The Simpsons to enter a country is cool, I bet most people here would do better on that than this.Flatfrog said:I failed the test, but I kind of get the idea that the point isn't to make it something any British person could pass, but to make it something that a person has to do some work to pass, thus proving that they are willing to make an effort. It would be just as effective if they made it a test on The Simpsons or the history of badminton.
The majority of the questions had stuff I've never been taught or didn't care about, particularly in terms of politics. You scored 10 out of a possible 24
You have failed, the pass mark was 75% According to the Life in the UK Test, you have insufficient knowledge of the English language or of life in the UK to remain. What would you change about the test if you could?
second point, my school skipped over the change from Catholicism to Protestantism. we just sort of jumped from Mary Queen of Scots to the Jacobites.Jamash said:What about the Lowland Scots who migrated to Ireland to settle and work the Plantation of Ulster? I'm pretty sure they have something to do with the Irish Gaels, even if it's just by living in the same land.TrilbyWill said:most of those questions are fucking bullshit. 'Ulster Scots'? seriously? that's a little offensive, because Gaelic and Scots have NOTHING TO DO WITH EACH OTHER!
Also, what about the Goidelic areas of Scotland? They have something to do with the Scots. Scotland wasn't all Pictish... most if it was Pictland I grant you, but the West of Scotland was Goidelic and shared roots with Ireland, so the connection between Gaelic and Scots is stronger than you may think.
The Protestants were against the Catholic monarchy, which is why our current Protestant Monarchy aren't allowed to marry anyone who isn't a Protestant, to prevent a Catholic ever becoming eligible for the throne.TrilbyWill said:and i'm fairly sure the Protestants were AGAINST the Catholic monarchy.
You should learn a bit about the history of Britannia before calling "fucking bullshit" on established historical fact.

"A language is merely a dialect with an army and navy" - Max WeinreichTrilbyWill said:about the first point: Lowland Scots is a dialect, not a language. It's a form of english. for example:
"I went to the shops." English
"Ah wenty the shoaps." Scots
"Chuaigh mé go dtí na siopaí." Irish Gaelic
and Scottish Gaelic is a similar language. It isnt called Ulster Scots though. It's Gaelic.
and the connection would be the Celts.

and i wasnt calling British history bullshit, i was calling the questions bullshit. as in, they have no real use in average life. evidence: i got 8 right and have lived here for all my life. also, pretty hard for me to study British history when i have too much work learning about Russian history.
