Meh, no. I hardly ever use internet terms at all. The only time i really do is if I'm actually playing a game and don't want to type the actual words out or don't have the time to because I am too busy winning.

I usually just say "lol" out of politeness when someone is trying to be funny.

"Guys...I just stepped on a rock...AND IT WAS HARD!"
"Heh..lol..."

Otherwise, its usually "hehe" or "haha". Only will I use ROFL if its really funny.

That's funny, cause I always get mad at friends for this. I'll me joking around on IM or something. And they'll go "lol" as their only response. And I always respond with one of two things. 1. Yes but did you REALLY laugh OUT LOUD?? 2. LOLZ LOLZ LOLZ LOLZ LOLZ HAHAHAHAH YOU SO FUNNY AND WITTY

(not going to read to see if someone already put this up)

Ok, its time for a new abbreviation (wow thats a long word)
LQTM, when i type lol or rofl, i dont actually laugh out loud or roll on floor laughing, most of the time i just smirk or Laugh Quietly To Myself, hence LQTM

I suggest everyone adopt this abbreviation immediately

I BARELY use lol. I get the same effect if I use "ha". But it's not like the end of the world if anyone uses it. It might be the end of intelligent language but not the world. *quietly chuckling to myself*

I only type lol when some thing really does make me laugh, other wise I just type "hehe".

I will say lol in the real world at times, but I actully pronounce the world so you here me say "lul". Its only with select people I know.

The only person who gets to use ROTFLOL in conversation is Weird Al Yankovic when he quotes Holy Grail really well.
I like you. A lot.

On topic, no, I usually abuse smileys. :D

Heh, I only use it to signify a small smirk.
As do most people I know.
I'd say lol is not overused, it just changed in meaning over time.
It's no longer literally "laughing out loud".
It just means you consider something funny.

I use "Hehe's" and "Haha's" more than LOL.
Me too. I can't even remember the last time I used "lol". That's definitely a missing poll option.

I like how everyone writes "used search bar". Theres a big chance this thread has been done before. It has cause I remenber posting on one months ago.

Anyhoooo! I barely use internet l33t speak anyway and its bastard childs so...
Dude, use the search bar. I saw that exact post like three days ago.

I actually don't frown on it so much, but only in certain situations. Mostly because text is a crappy way to communicate. Very hard to get your exact point across without the other person's present emotional state interfering. Take the above meant as a joke. I can add a simple lol j/k to the end and have it understood to be a joke by both parties. Or I can make a block of explaining text. I would rather use the block of text, but that is just me. Sometimes I have even been known to *shudder* break down and use words surrounded by asterisks or those :O smilies.

Because you cant hear the tone of someones voice when you read what they have typed, it helps the reader know that its humourous or sarcastic.

No one ever laughs out loud.

It most certainly isn't overued. I greatly rue its existence and wish it would go away.

I use "haha" like normal people.

Fine on the internet, not fine when said in the "real world" especially those who I don't feel who are truly part of the i-generation
