Before anyone complains, I removed the ?both? option, because if it was present, it would have dominated the poll. Gamers are defensive beings and the more recognition their hobby has, the more confident in themselves they are.

So, if the choice to vote ?both? was taken from you, which option would get your vote? Are video games an artistic medium or are they a competitive arena? What do you prefer to see them as?

Neither. I see them as a pastime, hobby, passion, and perhaps most of all, time sink.

I think dancing is an art and a sport. It's perfectly legitimate for an activity to be both. I understand the reason that was taken off the poll, and I voted that videogames are art.

Videogames are art to all players, but only some people treat videogames like sports.

Well they are unquestionably both: games can be made for the purpose of supplying a perfectly viable arena for competition, and they can also create amazing artistic experiences that are impossible in any other medium. In the end, I would say they're more art, not only because I prefer the artistic side, but because most of the artistic aspects to non-competitive games are also present in the making of competitive ones.

This depends on the game!!!!!

If I'm playing MW2 its a sport.

If I'm playing a story based game its an art/medium.

Unless you're glitching, its like the steroids of gaming. People and developers don't take too kindly to that.

I don't think removing "both" really helps, since it's really dependent on the type of game we're talking about. Multiplayer games tends to lean more towards the "sport" side, with competitive aspects and desire to be better. Single-player games tend to lean towards the "art" side, exploring new concepts and delivering new gameplay experiences

My opinion (and it sounds like yours as well since you used the word) is already in your opening paragraph. I'm afraid I will never see games beyond a hobby. And I play a lot of games.

I usually don't like going for the "both" option but there's no other way to put it. The fact that they're both is why videogames are so awesome.

Most hobbies and passtimes fall under "art" or "sport", though. You can consider something art/sport without regarding it as SRS BUSINESS.

Wow, I'm amazed somebody hasn't used the famous moron quote "Art is subjective" (It isn't)

Multiplayer is sport, singleplayer can be art.
