I actually make walkthroughs for youtube. So far I have made walkthroughs for all the Splinter Cell games, going through without knocking anyone out, and have around 2,500 subscribers

I try not to, but I fail almost every time. Still, in some cases I feel it's warranted.

I have a horrible relationship with walkthroughs. If I ever start reading one, just take a peek at one, I cant stop it. Sometimes I even stop thinking about how to solve a puzzle or progress in a game, and just consult the walkthrough. I try too keep away from them at all times.

(One hour earlier today I had a walkthrough tell me to open a cereal box in Secret of Monkey Island. I am error.)

I use them only when i have exhausted my other options. Or another example is Far Cry 2...i despise looking for all the diamond cases, and i use a walkthrough for that, the campaign on the other hand i will never use a walkthrough. To be honest i do not like using them at all but that does not mean i wont for really annoying things :D

I use them when stuck -- frequently due to poor level design. Occasionally, I'll use one for collectibles, but usually it's for obtuse puzzles and poorly designed levels.

Very rarely, will I use a walkthrough.

Usually if I'm tired at the time of playing, and having overlooked/missed something.. I'll check out the walkthrough. Just to verify that I won't be wasting a lot of time doing something wrong.

Don't remember the last time I did, though.

If it's a puzzle or something I'll never use it. If I'm finished and getting bored with the game and I'll stop playing anyway, I might consult one, like finding the locations of a couple of villages in fallout 3.

I usually only use them for collectables and fetch-quests. Which is particularly annoying when the editors over at Prima can't be bothered to check and make sure their information is accurate.
someone please burn Prima to the ground...

I tend to use them in every game, and I am deeply shamed by it.

I play through the game first time on normal without anything. Then try on harder modes and use walkthroughs to find all the hidden knickknacks =P

I try my best to get through a game walkthroughless, but there are places where I simply have to consult one to get further in the game. In those cases I do, otherwise I lose interest in the game.

I really do my best to not use a walkthrough, and will only resort to one if really, really stuck and I've used up all perceivable combinations of rub X against Y.

I do sometimes, like with Final Fantasy XIII since I have the CE walkthrough. But if the game can't stand without a walkthrough, it needs to be changed. Metroid Prime 2 is a good example. I literally have to go check a walkthrough every 15 minutes to figure out where to go in the game.

Tend to use it when I get stuck or want to collect everything, other than that not at all.

Like if I am murdering my way along god of war 3 and get to the perspective puzzle and think "what the fuckery am I meant to do" look up a guide, complete the puzzle, then go back to playing the game without the guide, till I get stuck again.

Only as a last resort. I've acquired a strong dislike for people who use them simply to get achievements/trophies, it seems to defeat the point.

Use? Yes. Back in the day of course it was looked upon as high treason, but nowadays I just don't have the time to solve every puzzle or find every nuance to get the 100/100 score in games. So walkthroughs help. Cheers to the folks that write them for free like the gamefaqs crew (I used to).

I don't glue myself to a walkthrough unless I'm playing the most recent Final Fantasy (because those are known to have important, easily missed items throughout, not just at certain points). But as Yahtzee has mentioned, the developers line of thought is not necessarily your line of thought, nor even the majority's line of thought. And some games are nigh on malicious in their attempts to conceal collectibles.
