If you can't understand the issues associated with war, then no quick post from me is going to help you. You need to go back to the moral drawing board and assess why you can't see any issues forming with the attack or terrorisation of ones nation.

It really should be self evident.

I think we need a good war every now and then to whip the PETA freaks back into perspective of what an issue actually is.

It brings people together, if nothing else.

I'm not the one who made the post, but I'll try my hand...how about the fact that a crazy man was sending all the Jews he could get his hands on to terrible concentration camps while trying to take over the world, the U.S. was sending all Japanese-Americans to only slightly less terrible concentration camps because somehow that was more acceptable, and general chaos was breaking out all over the world? I think these were pretty big issues for the time.

Then again, the human world going into chaos doesn't really matter if you're a cow. PETA's only purpose is to be a joke, and I'm fine that, but they do make some good points. (I don't support PETA, so don't glare at me like that. I'm saying that animal rights do matter, and you don't need to put kitty ears on fish to prove it.)

How bout this issue. You are sitting at home and a guy walks into your house and shoots your parents/siblings/partner etc then points the gun at you.
Do you:
a. Get shot
b. tell him what he is doing is illegal and then get shot
c. Pick up the gun near you and shoot him
d. Stop him when he got to your door
e. stop him at the airport
or
f. stop him in his country.

Think of your house as your country, and you do the math.

We need to deal with overpopulation somehow, unless someone can find us a new planet or 2.

The world isn't as black and white as you say. No too Wars are the same.

World War One for an example was a horrible war with little to no good course.
World War Two on the other hand was a war that needed to happen.
However, then you could say WW2 would not of happen without the first war.

Then you have the point of views from both sides and then there?s a history point of view.
And you can?t say ?War? is good because no one can say WW1 was a good war.

I think war is generally a bad thing, but sometimes unavoidable or even necessary.
That said, I don't get how anybody could say "I love war" unless they work for Lockheed Martin or something.

I love war. War and I, oh, we've had good times... long walks down the beach, war really brings out the best in me. I love to comb war's long red hair, I braid it sometimes... just for fun. I've been shopping, lately, for an engagement ring... should I go with a traditional diamond, or maybe one of these new pear shaped ones?

Really? Is war bad? REALLY?

I lament the death of topic quality(no offense OP) on the Escapist.
Really? I honestly think the problem here is the OP quality, not necessarily the topic itself. I can see debating the value of war being interesting, but "do you like war?" Not so much.

Though I admit, the poll options certainly don't help, either.

I think my only statement on the whole matter is that I hate all those people who seem to think "WWII got us out of the Great Depression, so wars are inherently good for the economy!" To which I say, "tell that to Europe, and try to avoid injury."

In general, war is a terrible thing. It causes massive losses of human life, serves as an enormous drain on the economy of the nations involved (except on the arms industries), and the legacy left behind from one war almost always leads to a new conflict sometime in the future. However, I could be totally wrong, and perhaps the US has already entered into the Orwellian execution of war...now that I think about it, hasn't the US been involved in some sort of conflict in the Middle East since 2003? Wait a minute, hasn't the US been involved in SOME kind of war for the past 67 years (from 1942-present)? Oooohhhhh spoookkkyyyyyyy.

*Edit: Yeah, okay, there's sort of a gap in American involvement in wars during the 90s, but I still like my idea.

I think a blood diamond would be the most fitting.

Depressing to say, War is good, for the economoy and trade.
That being said, I do not agree with war at all. Nothing about it is glorious, heroic or even justified.
War to me is extremely juvenile, like a grand-scale statement of "I've got a bigger penis than you! Nyah nyah!"

War is good and bad.
Thanks to the US entering WWII, our depression ended.
That's when war is a plus.
Just beacuse something has benifits dosen't mean its a good thing. The the human race was a victim of genocide, on the plus side there'd be no more zac effron or robert paterson, but on the whole it'd be an undenably bad thing. Yes, Wars in the past have been what solved problems, but at the cost of an impacat on billions of peolpes lives. The concept of war is an evil thing that is the greatest enemy for the advancement of mankind.

It's both - war in general is a horrible thing, but at times fighting a war can be good, i.e. in order to liberate an occupied country, in defence of an ally etc.

Simply stating that war is merely good or bad is fucking retarded. "I love war!" Then go fight one hardass. Get off the fucking internet and quit playing video games.

To say that war is always bad is as narrow minded as always throwing that option on the table. War should be avoided, mostly because it causes unrest at home and drains money, but if it has to be done, like World War Two for example, then so be it.
