I know there is more than one active animal rights group, PETA simply makes an obvious target for ridicule because they put themselves out there relentlessly.

You are obviously taking a joke too seriously, and the reason I'm not putting much effort into arguing with you is that I honestly don't care. It's fun to see you get all worked up, but I think it's time to calm down and accept that not every comment should be taken seriously.

Wars, the reasons why they happen and the effect they have are so intricate and complex that I seriously doubt that we'll ever see the whole picture. Everyone has their own personal agenda, and even the war for a "good" reason has a cause. One can for example say that WW2 happened because the German people were oppressed after the Allies had won WW1, and that WW2 was a reaction to this oppression. Hitler came to power because of how the "Allies" (Can't remember if the winning side of WW1 had a name, like in WW2, but bear with me here) treated the German people. But that's just one side of it.

Asking if war is good or not isn't the question that ought to be asked - we should ask whether it is necessary or not. War unites, and divides. Nothing will bring people closer than a common enemy, and nothing will bring them further apart than being enemies.

What we really need are for aliens to invade us, and give us a global sense of unity.

As it is know, we could "destroy" the world with the right application of nuclear weapons, but our collective interest in keeping the earth intact and thus alive has kept that from happening, and it will stay that way until planets become expendable(that may not be the best word, but it was the only thing it could come up with), which will be a very long time from now.

There is always something more deadly than the last weapon innovation. *Shrug* Once every nation gets nukes war is going to be majorly devastating. If our collective interests were strong then war would be obsolete and nuklear weapons would have been scrapped, patriotism is a major problem for that aswell. If you love your country you're most likely going to hate others (I mean Patriotic love, give your life for it n' all).Eh... might not be a "Very long time" for the world to become expendable if Global Warming is true. Hmm... Maybe I should start a thread on that... I had a really solid argument for it... Nah, probably done before anyways. Annnnyways, I'm pretty sure nukes are going to be a even bigger problem then they already are when/if WWIII starts.

But in a nuclear war where every side has nukes, they know that launching theirs will result in their own destruction so their instinct of self preservation kicks in. This world will never be "expendable" until there are others, and until that time we will never(IMO) see a nuclear war.

True... I wouldn't really trust that though. People can be irrational, especially during times of war. This goes for politicians as well as citizens. Plus there are the wars where only one side has nukes (Iraq War for example). If we had McCain I'm pretty sure he would have launched nukes. I'm pretty sure other countries would be angry at this, not war angry, but if I was living in UK I would be angry as hell... Same as for here actually... Heh. Well, we're not going to be able to get a clear answer to this because it's all infrences. I suppose we'll just have to see how things play out and hope for the best.

i doubt that mccain was a soldier hes seen war and i would think he would be less likely to use nukes because of that

I've had a keen interest in war most of my life.
I think of it in terms of self sacrifice for a cause, and how war for the ones in charge is like playing chess, but the pieces are alive. It's all about strategy and preparedness, which is why blunt force is hardly used. Even Blitzkriegs need to be strategical.

I guess what I'm saying is.. War is like Chess, and plays like Football...

This all sounds awesome to me, but I'm also going on 3am and am extremely tired, so my apologies if it actually sounds really dumb or irrelevant.

To really sum up the good vs evil of war though.
It's BAD, but it can also be used to fight for GOOD.

In general, war is a terrible thing. It causes massive losses of human life, serves as an enormous drain on the economy of the nations involved (except on the arms industries), and the legacy left behind from one war almost always leads to a new conflict sometime in the future. However, I could be totally wrong, and perhaps the US has already entered into the Orwellian execution of war...now that I think about it, hasn't the US been involved in some sort of conflict in the Middle East since 2003? Wait a minute, hasn't the US been involved in SOME kind of war for the past 67 years (from 1942-present)? Oooohhhhh spoookkkyyyyyyy.

*Edit: Yeah, okay, there's sort of a gap in American involvement in wars during the 90s, but I still like my idea.

Well, not somthing we can be sure of. Still, our weapons are going to get to the point of planet destroying in a few decades/centuries. War would be completely obsolete. I'd rather have wars than the use of those types of weaponry.
