Although I've not played 40k for... well, one might actually say many years now (though I would love to reacquaint myself with GW sometime soon), the Eldar were, and always will be, my favourite.

To be fair though, the races listed above are all utterly ace.

'Nids, definitely. The expression on a player's face when you return that wiped out unit to the board? Priceless.

Tyranids player here, nothing says victory like breaking a man's spirit by just setting up your army.
Amen! Exactly what I say :D

I've always wondered what would happen if the Tyranids and Necrons (2nd fav) did battle. One things for sure, it would be epic.

Possibly, ecpically on table tops, but if you imagine, like a CG battle between the two(if made well), daaaaammmmm!

Marines, Tau, and Tyranids are mah favs. I like them all, though. Except necrons. No-one likes necrons. ESPECIALLY YOU, RIGHT? RIGHT! Yeah. No-one likes necrons.

Interesting fact: In my edition of the 40k manual (from about 5 years before necrons were released) there is a picture of a necron, labelled "Unknown".

But it would have to end with the Tau coming down and killing everything.

It would be epic but....

Necrons own the Tau, because a lot of the heavy stuff for Tau is vehicals, and machines, and a lot of the Necron's wepons are anti-tank/machine suff.

Also I dont understand how the Tau aren't wiped out yet... I mean the Space Marines, could wipe then out easily since the Tau empire have like 2 stars acording to the 40K map, and the space mariens have like 50.

It's because we are the gods of ranged combat. If you can't hit us, you can't win.

imperial guard for their quotes... and tanks

1:Enemies of the Imperium, hear me. You have come here to die. The Immortal Emperor is with us and we are invincible. His soldiers will strike you down. His war machines will crush you under their treads. His mighty guns will bring the very sky crashing down upon you. You cannot win. The Emperor has given us his greatest weapon to wield. So make yourselves ready. We are the First Kronus Regiment, and today is our Victory Day.

2:I have at my command an entire battle group of the Imperial Guard. Fifty regiments, including specialized drop troops, stealthers, mechanized formations, armored companies, combat engineers and mobile artillery. Over half a million fighting men and thirty thousand tanks and artillery pieces are mine to command. Emperor show mercy to the fool that stands against me, for I shall not.

3:Strike fast and suddenly. Attack without warning. Secure victory before the foe is aware of his danger. Remember always, a war is easily won if your enemy does not know he is fighting.

4:Your foe is well equipped, well-trained, battle-hardened. He believes his gods are on his side. Let him believe what he will. We have the tanks on ours.

5:Infantry win firefights. Tanks win battles. Artillery wins wars

Ok, we'll just send the Ultra Marines and Blood Ravens over and see how ya handle them :p

And how are the Necrons not gods of range? They're freakin robots!

Rule books give us better weapons that work accurately at longer ranges. We pick you off before we come in range of your weapons...

yeah I know, never understood that really, Im mean they are robots!

but snipers isn't really effective when your dealing with a swarm army, like the nids, pick a few off, then your surounded, I've seen it on the battle feild, yes I see the tau are good, againt small costly armies, but they aint good against the nids or orks.

I believe it. I've never seen a situation where a sniper beats a horde unless the conditions are specific.

Back when I played 40k I masterminded a fantastic combined-arms Glorious Empire army that combined an Imperial Guard backbone with Space Marine elite elements. I couldn't field it without an opponent's prior consent, of course, but it was incredibly fun and (surprisingly, considering how young I was at the time) pretty well-balanced: not quite the steamroller you'd expect.

And then they introduced the Tau, which stole my heart as well. I would've mained them if it wasn't for the Kroot - I wasn't too keen on them. I was partway through converting a Tau 'close combat' team to count as Kroot in my games when I gave up on 40k. I would go back now, but it's just too expensive.
