I have a Orcs & Goblins army myself, back from when I was like... 12. I sucked at painting them though, and couldn't really be arsed to paint every god damned orc in the most fantastic manner. The only things I spent more time painting was the Trolls and the big Wyvern-thing with a rider.

I love the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, does that count?

I hate the miniatures game with an undying passion though, stupid...frigging...rules...so...terrible...unbalanced...chaos favoring...poorly designed...money sink...

Yeah...

I have rage.

I'm the exact same. I also realised it wasn't exactly furthering my social status. I haven't even touched a Warhammer miniature for about eight years.

Having said that, I find the lore pretty interesting.

I am crap at playing and have dgiven up, but I still paint. I'm the idiot who paints a horde army to display model detail. I still play very rarely though with some mates when we're bored, or if I meet up with an old GW mate.

I have a High Elf army of about 5000 points (inc special characters & all fully painted)
A 1000 point Wood Elf army, fully painted.
A 500 point Night Goblin Army, fully painted and local award winiing (painting).
And countless little limited edition display and Games Day miniatures.

The lore is also pretty good and I'm diving abck into Warhammer Online when my exams are over.

For me it is definately a hobby. I have had a hard time lately getting the urge to paint. However, I do love making cheese-filled army lists and playing bastard tactics.

As for those demanding a "Don't Play, don't care" option, get out of the thread. If you don't have anything constructive to add, don't bother posting here.

My interest runs as far as the artwork, the miniatures are ok but 90% of the literature that goes with them I would class as guff. By far the most intersting elements are the areas they don't explain, like where did the Tyranids actually come from, what is Farsight doing etc. When they started trying to turn the Necrons into a coherent, explainable army they lost a lot.

There should be an option for " I Played Warhammer but quit because Games-Workshop are a bunch of money grubbing bastards who raise already unreasonable prices damn near weekly."
You forgot "clearly favoring the wealthy player over the frugal one".

Artform for me. I generally dont have the patience to play the games, but I love painting, and use them as centerpieces rather than armies. Also, theres nothing wrong with the price. Its a worthwhile hobby, I know people who spend as much as I would on GW in a month, in a day on cigarrettes. Those are the stupid ones.

I've gotten an army here and there. My painting skills aren't much up to scratch and I don't really get to play much anymore.

Still, its quite nice for a bit of fun with mates when you have the time.

Edit: GWs(and many other gaming companies) prices haven't helped keep my interest. If anything, the decrease in use and what I have bought over the years can be linked to the amount they raise their prices.

When you look at it that way there's no reason for buying video games or books or anything like that.

I played it once. It was interesting, but too expensive for my pockets. Maybe in the future.

I'm with you.

I love the game, but I just really don't like painting

OT: The category it falls under depends on the individual player

If you like it because of the lore, consider it an interest
If you like it because of the game aspect, consider it a hobby
If you like to paint models, consider it an artform

Simplistic way of looking at it, I know, but it's a decent base

In that case it's a hobby for me.
