I think it may be that those who dislike him have simply stopped watching. Why watch and comment on something that you dislike or that provides little entertainment to you after the first time. I stopped watching after episode 3 or so and I haven't really given him a thought since.
Yeah it was pretty much the same for me. Something about his presentation just rubs me the wrong way and I find him irritating at best. It's actually pretty bad because now whenever I read what he says in Extra Consideration I read it and his voice plays in my head and I become a very unhappy person.

I love Destructoid. I love Jim. I love the Escapist. This merging made me happy.

Just like this news article from Jim makes me happy [http://www.destructoid.com/let-s-hear-it-for-lon-lon-milk-204202.phtml#ext]

If the Escapist could bring Jonathan Holmes over, I'd never need to leave this site. That dude is the ultimate anti-cynic.

He really doesn't need to swear as much while spending the time not swearing to bring out more points of debate on the topic at hand, not whether he's good or not. I guess he's the Lester Haines of the escapistmagazine. Harsh? yeah sorry.

Well, I didn't like it at first. However, I gave him a chance with 5 videos and by the fouth or so, he warmed up to me.

I love his sense of humor, and the way he speaks of himself. Thank God for Jim!

I'd actually like to thank you for that. I appreciate someone giving something a fair shake (I think 3 eps is fair), then simply not returning to it if they decide they don't enjoy it. It's far preferable to people who keep coming back week after week to say "this still sucks," which accomplishes nothing.

I will say that his format has changed quite a bit since those first few episodes, so you might want to give it another go, if the topic he's covering that week is of interest to you. This week's, in particular, I found to be nicely on point and insightful. But if you'd rather not, that's fair, too.
I think I will give it another shot. Perhaps, it was just his early episodes weren't to my taste. I hope he's gotten better since.

I found he has gone from overly offensive to boringly high and mighty. I watched 2 episodes, stopped for 2 or 3 and the caught one or two after hearing he changed his format. I have "warmed up" to him now that I can hear what he is saying. But he lays his shtick on to thick. He makes some good points here and their, but I groan when he starts in about how he is some sort of god or to be worshiped, I get it is a joke, but it is so boring.

To his credit, I think he has good radio/blog voice.

Could be that the comments seem more positive is because the people who don't like him don't watch anymore.
Didn't like the early episodes, not going to repeated subject myself to that "just in case" it sucks less.

I stopped watching after the third episode.

The guy just doesn't have a good screen presence or speaking voice, which are 2 big fat necessities when you're doing a soapbox show.

While I've always liked The Jimquisition, his more recent videos have started to tone down his "I'm obviously better than you! HA HA HA!!!" attitude and I'm grateful for it. Maybe he will get back to his old, unscripted and less acting-filled self in a few more videos.

I've given up watching him, the man just doesn't have any charisma or presence and he's not exactly easy on the eye. The format for his show presents this weak side of him, as it would if Yahtzee or Moviebob appeared in the same manner.

Thought the first episode was just absolute crap, think he has done a much better job and I look forward to his future work.

'Warming to him' does seem to be quite a common comment since he started. I was the same, I hated his first two videos, not finding them funny or witty at all, but stuck with it and have loved him from his third video onwards. Thank God (fictional character) for Jim!

Still...indifferent. For me he's just, well, boring.

Lacks anything that would actually make him memorable, he doesn't have a good voice, doesn't really present the issues in some interesting / unique way, and just tries to make up for it all with random swearing which i don't really consider the best way to get the point through.

All in all very average and haven't seen much of an improvement over the course of time.

He should have a column, not a show; the "show" distracts from his points & isn't entertaining.

This is incredibly difficult to answer properly, because if you speak out against Escapist material on their forums, you tend to get suspended.

That said, his last show concerning accountability had many, many good points, but the bottom line for me is he delivers them horribly badly. It feels like he's a robot that read the definition of sarcasm and cynicism in a book once, but can't quite wrap his head around it. His constant references to how awesome he is are obviously comical, but are played a bit too straight, and can come off as grating - that'd be why his following is so small.

His closest neighbor, in terms of what it seems he's trying to pull off and what's on Escapist, would probably be Yahtzee, and being compared to him isn't going to do Jim any good at all. Whereas Yahtzee has a wider emotive spectrum in his voice - that you can immediately tell when he's being deliberately sarcastic or cynical, Jim seems to deliver most of his lines sounding like a mid-90s British news anchor: kind of flat and factual, which doesn't fit his actual material well.

Of course, again, that isn't to say his last posting didn't hit on a VERY important subject that I'd hope could be brought directly to the media powers behind the ridiculous nonsense. Good on him for that.

Amusingly, I was looking into being a radio personality for awhile, and with some top level help from an old giant around here, discovered that I also tend to read material like some mid 90's news robot, however when I talk normally, or adlib my whole presentation, it sounds properly engaging. Guess I'd sum it up as 'public speaking is hard, but speaking in public is easy.'

Very, very this, in short. His material tends to be good, but the presentation of it is what's hurting it.

I like the content and it seems to have gotten a bit better with the more recent videos.

...But, let's be honest, the gimmick is outright cringe worthy. We're on a video game site, we deal with people like that all the time, it's like the quintessential nerd archetype. It is entirely played out and I feel it really takes away from the videos.

There is simply nothing new or interesting about the persona of the self important nerd, whether portrayed ironically or not (doing things ironically is, itself, beyond overdone).

It's all just tiresome at this point.

It reminds me of Swaim's Cracked TV gimmick of being a robot. It added nothing, it served no purpose, and it didn't make the content anymore humorous or insightful.

He's a pretty intelligent guy with good points, but he's best when he makes his points in writing. I think he's just sort of unknown for a lot of those on the Escapist. I didn't even know about his site until a while after he started his videos.
