I'm using an ancient nord sword of cold with an iron shield, but i often switch my shield out for a destructive spell.

Oddly enough I've been giving bounded weapons a shot this go around. I picked a Breton as my class and so decided use the race's natural affinity for conjuration (it started at lvl25) to good use. I'm level 6 and can summon a single handed sword that deals as much damage as a comparable 2-handed battleaxe. For now it works, only time will tell if they remain viable as I progress in levels.
.
It's important to stick with your race affinity at first. I kicked arse with my Thief/Archer Bosmar with its awesome sneaky attacks.
I would disagree... I've chosen to go Argonian that focus' on magic and it seems to be going perfectly fine. While I'll admit that it's probably simpler to get a feel for, It's hardly that important. The elder scrolls has always been about freedom and I think Skyrim keeps this alive perfectly... Now with that out of the way. Why am I still here and not on skyrim!

I'm using a dagger+bow at the moment, since it works well for thieving. Using a dagger means I get 15x damage on sneak attacks, and it's awesome. I'll also use a sword when things get too hot to handle with just the dagger, and a bow for when stuff is easier to pick off at range. Definitely more inclined toward one-handed weapons though.

Sword and board, discipline and steel, defence and offence, call it what you will, I face mad berserkers and cowardly archers with equal confidence.

Imperial specializing in Destruction Spells, but also with Heavy Armor for defense. Back-up weapons are blades.

Though I'm curious about the Fists of Steel perk...

PS: I can't wait to get Conditioning perk for heavy armor. My carry weight is a pain until that happens.

I'd use my regular tactics of being a sneaky bastard and stabbing you in the goolies followed by taking your stuff and giggling gleefully on my way to the pawnbroker. Yes, I'm a Thief. Also, healing and featherfall spells are incredibly handy.

Why not a mix? Isn't that the purpose of the "Favourites"?

Personally I think I'll go with a mix of Two-Handed Swords and Dual-Wield Swords. I'll definitely try out the bound swords, to see if I can add that to the mix as well.

I find it amusing there are 5 options for hitting people with a piece of metal at close range, but only one poll option for the powers of magic.

Haven't played yet but one of the features I've been looking forward to most was dual-wielding. So my first attempt at combat will probably be two swords. If that doesn't work out I'll probably fall back to my trusty sword/shield combo.

I have an Imperial bow to do stealthy kills most of the time because I heard they powered up the archery. If there's a large group and they charg at me, I have an axe and a mace as backup but I use light armour, so I always get killed quickly in close combat. If I'm messing around with mudcrabs, I use e a fire or shock spell because magic is so much fun in this game - I'm going to have to make my next character magic based.

I am angry that they dumped unarmed. It was hilarious when you could run around punching everything to death. So I still haven't really settled on a style yet.
