Pretty much this. And get rid of the fucking dialog wheel. Origins had a better system.
exactly the dialog wheel is freaking annoying.

the whole point of an RPG in my mind is that the character is an extension of me

picking an option only to find out its insanely different to what i thought it would be kicks you out of the immersion.

at least with DA:O i had complete control over what my character said

Not to mention she didn't speak another thing that pisses me off, non speaking characters increases immersion and makes it feel less like im watching a movie i have little control over

Lets see I've replayed through it 4 times all ready with another 2 playthroughs planned so I would say no you're not the only one who liked it.

I like it, it's just vastly inferior to Origins.

It's not a bad game, by normal standards it's a really good game, but it's bad by BioWare standards, so it was disappointing, and does itself a disfavor by tying itself to the last game. I spent way to much time just thinking about how everyone from Origins was doing, and it's hard to form new emotional connections when you still haven't gotten over your old ones.

If you ask me, Dragon Age: Origins was BioWares best game, and Dragon Age II was their worst... kind of ironic

Please do not start these fucking threads again...
OT: No, I liked it too. I liked the first one better, but the second wasn't bad.

of course not.

but Origins is much better.
it has better characters, it's longer, no re-used maps over and over, an actual plot, etc.

yes you are the only one . I have zero interest in finishing it after a few hours of play . Regurgitated Tripe EA style. Bioware is Dead imo

Story wasn't as strong/involving, the areas weren't varied, but aside from those it wasn't really too bad of a game. But that's just my opinion.

Heh.

this hole Dragon Age debacle reminds me A LOT of the Deus Ex debacle.

does anybody else remembers that? i think it was the same case, like, EXACTLY the same case.

Dragon age 2 could have been extreamly good and maybe even better if they had not rushed it. There are signs that the game was rushed all over, the fact that the first chapter was the best chapter and most complete and longest should be the first sign, the second sign was the limited dialog options and not so far a reaching consequences for your actions. The third sign was how pitifully easy the boss fights were, especially at the end. The fourth sign was the broken quests in the third chapter. And the fifth sign the game was shoved out before being polished, edited, and truly completed was that unlike in dragon age origins you couldn't just start a conversation with a character. That's probably my biggest gripe, the characters were so shallow it was ridiculous with nearly no depth. Characters in dragon age origins had depth, lots of it, and personality. Dragon age 2 characters could be summed up in one word each.
Avaline: lawful
Fenris: Emo
Anders: whiney
Meril: Nieve
Dwarf: chatty
Isabella: slutty

And that's all you need to know. Combat mechanics were greatly improved, it's a shame my enemies were as predictable as sun rise. The story could have been epic if it was spruced up just a little more, perhaps letting us get to know meridith and the first enchanter before having to choose which one to ally ourselves behind. I mean would it have been hard to throw in two extra quests from them in chapter one as an introductory? A little extra work, a little extra time, and dragon age 2 could have rivaled the first and maybe even exceeded it. More dialogue, more depth, far reaching consequences, and more choices would have made it golden. But instead we have to settle for silver, silver is nice but I was expecting gold.

It's worth the play, it's not a bad game, but it is NOT better then the original. But it "could" have been and that to me is a little sad.
Agree with Each and every single one of your points.

Da2 had the POTENTIAL, to make DAO look like a piece of garbage by comparison, it just wasn't executed well.

I liked it, it had its flaws, but then so did DA:O. It seemed to have some REALLY good ideas that fumbled in their execution, for instance the idea of having it be about a character was great, but it also led to the narrative feeling disjointed. It also made some HUGE improvements over DA:O like removing the Fade and Deep Roads drag fests of the first game.

To try to make this coherent: It was a fun game, the story was lacking because they abandoned the traditional fantasy conceit of hero saving the world to make it the story of the Hero becoming the Hero, and unfortunately there were some problems in the execution leading to the game feeling more like a collection of three stories with interrelated characters than one unified plot.

People are idiots had have no middle ground now a days, it's either amazing, or crap. I thought DA 2 from what I played was pretty darn good, not amazing, but it's far from bad.
I didn't finish it because it bored me. I don't think it is a good, or even average game. Am I an Idiot? If I trudged along would my IQ increase proportionally to time played and/or amount I liked the game?
No however I feel like you're not great at reading posts. I said people are idiots and have no middle ground. I said nothing about being an idiot for not liking a game.

To make my point more clear, people praise DA1 endlessly for being a amazing game in many ways, but DA2 is just terrible because it doesn't let you put armor on your allies.

Definitely not. I haven't actually completed it yet I've just started playing through it again (was very busy when I first got it) and I actually got really involved in it last night and didn't want to turn it off lol haven't been able to say that about a game for a while.

It was decent. I guess i "liked" it. I rented it 3 times instead of buying it, so yes, i liked it. But i didnt like it enough to pay 60 USD for it.

This. I thought it was a solid game, but not as good as Origins. I did enjoy it played through it twice.
