I was thinking of getting a DS for a few games (and probably more later), but since there were so many different types, I don't know which would be best? Is there a real difference between them all? I don't really care for wifi or it having a camera. I would prefer one with a screen that lights up (not sure if they all do that, or if none do it)... getting really tired of having to turn on a light to play my GBA. One that plays older (GB, GBA) games would be great too. But, like I said, I don't really know much about them or which would be best for me to get...

Do not get a DSi. They're not worth it. Plus they don't support GBA games.

I don't think any of the DS consoles support GB games, but I do know that Lite and regular DS supports GBA.

I'd suggest that you get the regular one, since it isn't very different from the lite, and it's cheaper. It may look a bit clunky, but it works fine.

Don't buy a DS to start with buy something more worth it. That should be a poll option

It isn't overly huge (like the XL), it doesn't have too much features that you have no interest for, all the while definitely not being the cheapest you could choose (like the DSi), and it isn't ugly and clunky, with badly-lit screens (like the original one).

What am I talking about to get? The DS Lite, of course (like the one I have)!

I had this decision a few weeks back and eventually got a DSi, does all the stuff I want it to and its quite small. At least in comparison to the others

Only the classic DS and DS Lite support GBA games, and there a lot of great GBA games. However, they don't really support GB/GBC games either, you might need an actual GBA if you want to play those games.

The DSi and DSi XL are pretty much the same thing, the only difference is the size. The only real benefit to these is that they support a higher encryption for wireless connections than the DS and DS Lite do, but this support is still reliant on the DS games themselves. So, unless the DS game itself supports the encryption then it really won't matter if you are using a DSi anyway. And there's also things like the ability to use DS Ware and the camera it has.

So that aside, the classic DS will be the cheapest and shouldn't be too hard to find used. The DS lite will be reasonable enough in price as well. So you'll want to take these into consideration when making a purchase.

DS Lite seems to be the best option for you. Then you can still play GBA games. Most of the features of the DSi seem to be more of a gimmick than anything.

DS Lite is probably your best bet. Much nicer than the original DS, and nearly as cheap thanks to the release of the DSi. The DSi completely got rid of the GBA cartridge slot, so the only games you'd be able to play with it are DS games. Even then, some DS games made use of the cartridge slot (like the Guitar Hero games), so none of those are compatible with the DSi.

If you want to play original GBC games, though, you will have to stick with your GBA. None of the DS line supports anything older than GBA games.

Get a DS lite. I'm still happy with my old DS, but the DS lite would be the best choice for a new DS if you have GBA games you want to play.

Buy the nes. Or the SNES. Or the Genesis. Or the N64. Or the TG-16. When you have all of those consoles, after that, consider a DS.

I have seen a review on the DSi XL and i think you should get it, because in the review it said it had a longer battery life than the normal DSi while having a bigger screen so you can get a more accurate tap and you can play your games longer. In the end it is your choice that matters.

My vote is the DS Lite. Nice shape and design, and hasn't been stripped of its GBA slot.

Go with the DS lite, or if you have a lot of GB games, get a regular DS and a used GBA SP with the extra money. Personally I like the design and look of the lite over the original, but you enough GB and GBC games to play, so the original DS/ GBA SP combo would come in handy.

I would normally say get an XL because the larger screens work fantastically plus the size of the device is much easier to handle (better grip). however since you have GBA games and probably care about backwards compatibiliy, i would recommend getting a DS lite. the DS lite is a much better than the original one plus it fits nicely in the pocket.

The DS lite is the best DS I've ever used. The original is too big, the DSi is not compatible with GBA games (none are compatible with GBC games though) and I don't need the camera. All come with WiFi though.

DS Lite, it plays GBA games and DSi and XL are a waste, also the Lite is brighter and has a better resolution then my old, tatty, decaled, teeth marked, scratched DS Retro
