Apparently, some of the multiplayer footage was shown last night in the demo.

http://kotaku.com/5986057/hey-watch-dogs-sneakily-showed-off-the-first-instance-of-ps4-multiplayer-last-night

Kotaku: I seem to remember that you guys talked about asynchronous multiplayer design at E3. Is that what we saw at the end of the demo, where the camera was being hacked?

Morin: Yeah, that's a nice observation. Not everybody picked that up. Watch Dogs is all about hyperconnectivity. To me, that has to mean all the time and anywhere. So yes, other people are out there all the time, when you don't expect it. Whether you're playing single-player or multiplayer, it's happening. You're saying asynchronous but it's much more real-time than that?

Kotaku: Because we saw a real-time demo tonight, right? What we saw was another player jumping into the game and affecting a certain part of the gameplay?

Morin: Yes, exactly. There's more detail to come on that.

Kotaku: And that was a camera being hacked. To help or hurt Aiden?

Morin: Oh, help! Or not! I think both are interesting questions. We'll let players do pretty much what they want on those terms. And I think that what's interesting is that since we're creating a fantasy that you can progressively control all of Chicago and monitor everything? if you can do that? you need to ask yourself if Aiden Pearce can do all of this, can anybody else out there do the same thing? And the answer is absolutely yes.

Kotaku: He's not a special snowflake.

Morin: He is not. [laughs]
Personally, I think this is amazing. If other people can watch you play SP and set up various obstacles or help you out without you even knowing, that raises replay value significantly. Of course, I don't want this to be mandatory. It should be optional. But imagine the possibilities.

I find myself thinking about secretly helping out other players like some hacker mastermind. Or maybe I want to see them fail so I do everything I can to slow them down or stop them and then see if they can fight their way out of the trap I'd set up for them. And I want others to do that to me. Instead of scripted A.I. we can have real people doing real unpredictable things that change they way you play the game when you don't expect it. That's the ultimate challenge. I am very excited to see more of that.

So it's assassin's creed styled multiplayer?

Perfect, though the amount of morons who just gun down people at random trying to get their target will Skyrocket as soon as this game is released.

I don't think you quite understand what he means. It's not multiplayer in the since that you onto a server and fight other people. It's multiplayer in the sense that someone can affect your singleplayer experience. I for one believe this is freaking ingenious. It seems like every time I hear something about Watch Dogs, It makes me want it so much more.

Now we've seen this in other games and it hasn't always worked out well. Ubisoft Montreal is a pretty good dev studio however, and I really hope these guys can pull it off. I hope that this is optional though, as I like not having my singleplayer experience fucked up because some random twat is fucking with me.

I hope people can drive so I can just sit perched on a building constantly hacking the street pylons. I can't imagine that ever getting old.

I keep telling myself, "Watch Dogs is not going to be THAT good, don't get excited" but you know what? Even if the game isn't supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, it'll still be pretty damn fun. Seriously, this is a kickass idea...if pulled off correctly and optional, of course.

Fuck, Ubisoft's Marketing Department is really good at this. Reveals that showed actual game footage and interesting ideas? I thought those die out and were replaced with cinematic trailers with no game relevance what so ever.

As for the multiplayer, theoretically it's amazing but I can easily imagine it becoming an incredible grief-fest from what he pitched

I've got high hopes for the game, though I'm still a little rephrehensive. I think they may be able to really pull this off though.

Plus, I can't help but think "Person Of Interest: The Game." when I see it. :)

Their explanation is a few buzzwords coupled with them chuckling to themselves knowingly and patting themselves on the back. All they seem to have actually said about it is that people seem to sync into your game, ala Journey.

So I guess I'll decide whether I'm interested or not when they actually explain it properly.

I'm willing to bet that ubisoft has thought of all of the problems that could arise from this so in the end my best guess is that it will be not only optional but you can set to allow anyone to jump in or only friends.

Since they showed the first trailer at E3 I've thought it was like "Person of Interest" and I would love anything close to that.

OT: As long as it's something like an option where you can turn off everyone should be happy. Though I do love the idea and all the horrible things we can do with it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I love that show, and when I saw the demo it made me pretty excited.

So long as its not mandatory I'm fine with it. If it is mandatory its bloody stupid. I don't want some moron from the Internet coming into my game and screwing it up. Its that same shit as with Dark Souls invasions for that - I'm playing the way I want to play, and at the pace I want to play at. I don't want some A-hole or idiot coming around to me and trying to make me play their way instead. Its not fun. Its annoying.
If it isn't compulsory I'll likely give it one or two goes for a laugh. If it is then I'm not even buying the game.

This could be good or a complete mess, when we are talking online, PC and Ubisoft this is most probably a mess, possibly "fuck I'm not buying this shit now" sort of mess.
But hey that means others can learn from it and make something good.

There's gonna be fourhundred asses trying to ruin my game at the same time. On the other hand, there might be some really interesting outcomes, but 80% of the time they're just gonna cause trouble.
