Legalize weed completely, decriminalize all other drugs.

I mean, for fuck's sake. You'd think we'd have learned from prohibition.

Exactly the right idea. This should be done right away. I don't like weed myself personally, but the facts are it should be legalized.

By saying it is illegal you are taking away people's right to do something. This is fine if there is justification and if the law does something. Murder being illegal is a good idea. But otherwise you should keep as many rights people can possibly have as the default.

Even if weed were somehow evil, the law is useless. Its ridiculously easy to get a hold of it. Anyone who wants it, legal or not, will get it. So the way people are going about it is wrong if they want to do anything. I've seen people get higher jail sentences for having weed in American than for rape cases.

It doesn't matter if you think its bad or a stupid idea, that's your opinion and not the bases for laws. People should be free to do whatever they want with their life if it doesn't hurt anyone else. And smoking weed in and of itself doesn't effect anyone else. Especially not anymore than alcohol.

Legalize it and tax it. Aside from tax money coming in you'll also save MILLIONS a year on paying for people to be in jail for drug offenses.

Just look at the prohibition, all it did was benefit criminals.

Its a difficult subject. If its legalized people will stop being discrete about it and be more reckless with it. But it will all so put in in stores rather than form dealers, which takes money away form crime and in to the economy.

If Massachusetts put it to a vote right now I'd vote to legalize it, I'm willing to let my state become the test subject, it could lead to us being the first place in the world to come to the right decision, or things will get bad and we will have to re-illigalize (is that even a word) it.

Everything I could say has already been said by other people on this forum. If you want an example of a drug that is reaped by the criminal underworld when it was illegal look at alcohol. When Prohibition came around a alcohol black market started. To tell the truth whenever we discuss this in school the only people who agree with me are the ones who've had a history with drugs which really surprised me. They brought up points similar to mine which I respected. However the "good" people, that is the people who don't have a history or are good kids, All disagree purely from a moral standpoint. They've been taught that weed is bad and nothing good could come of it and refuse to listen to the reason that it could save government money, and if you live in America you know how much we need that.

I have the belief that it's people's bodies and they have a right to do what they want with it. I don't agree with it but they have all rights to do it in my opinion. I have the same opinion on other drugs and even prostitutes where I think people misunderstand me. When I say this I don't mean, "That way I can have all the high and sex I can possibly imagine!" I just say that not only for reasons I specify but because we regulate so much money on stopping illegal drugs and prostitution when we aren't making much of an impact. So I say stop trying to stop it and save the money for something important. I do not mean make those drugs legal for use or prostitution taxed I just mean stop trying to stop it.

I think it should be legal, but those who say it won't cause problems are kidding themselves. Maybe make it legal and attach a mandatory 2 year jail term if you drive while using.

It should also be illegal to smoke it in public - private property only.

It doesn't have to be legal to drive under the influence of a legal substance....or are you saying that anybody who smokes weed (stoners, w/e your definition) shouldn't ever be allowed to drive?

I'm for smoking weed. Why? Cause I like getting high. Straight up. In fact, I have a plan for a wake-and-bake tomorrow morning, and am totes stoked.

As you said, weed is, at worst, on par with drinking. We certainly don't have to change the laws on driving while intoxicated, etc.

It would clear out the justice system of petty offenses, allow the government to regulate and tax it, and would dry up a chunk of the drug trade.

what about the harder drugs like crack and heroine?
