You remember that old saying "sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me", what happened to that? We've become a nation of kids so coddled that it's become more along the lines of "Sticks and stones will break my bones, and words will destroy me as a person"
I honestly find it kinda sickening how people complain about online bullying, how everyone is terrified about saying what's on their mind because we're so litigious as a society.

I think it depends on who said what. I mostly never care what someone says especially if its just a stranger or someone at school or work or even family. But there have been a few times and its usually when it's someone I care about or I'm real close to.

Don't really mind in real life.
Get pissed of in games when people do it over and over again

Can't put them down on this forum because they involve serious language that:

A) I am not comfortable with posting

and

B) Would get me suspended

Most of the time I laugh at it. Years or chavs that are all words no actions does that. It's funny because when one of them actually tried attacking me I actually owned the shit out of him and he went running to his girlfriend. Gotta love chavs.

So what you are saying that there is no psychological repercussion for the words that people speak to each other, and in this case the words of family members? I was never saying that words "will destroy me as a person", but words will have a sustained effect if they are chosen right and said by the person who means most to you. As to the coddling part, maybe you are right, but having someone who is nice to you is not something that is bad, or should be looked down upon.

I may seem like an idiot asking this, but what is a "chav"?
EDIT: Shit, double post.

I am not affected by words anymore, they are just words. Sadly, because of this I hurt others because I do not realize they can even start crying about something. I used to cry and get hurt as a little kid when my dad got angry (when he gets angry, he really gets angry). Nowadays I am just angered by that.

The angrier and more serious a discussion gets, the less I'm able to take it seriously. At the point insults get thrown I'm just having too much fun to care.

Which is probably a defence mechanism from some repressed event I can't recall, but hey! Beats getting all sad like some of you guys. :p
same.....ive played WoW for 6 years and delt with trolls who could make people cry in under 400 words.....but yeah i can do it too now so its all good...but sometimes...i just crash...no one has to even say anything to me and i will just crash. Happened yesterday and the day before...thank god for the 2 friends i have left...we went out and had fun...im back at 60ish %

I have recently been thinking about the mean things people will say to get you riled up, or feel hurt. So maybe some group therapy will be good to the soul. So, what is the meanest thing someone has said to you?

I think the meanest thing someone has said to me was "You disgust me". It was my dad and he was yelling at me over the two C's I had just gotten :(.
Someone told me once that I was worthless and never going to amount to anything because I was depressed at the time and couldn't/had great difficulty sorting my life and feelings out. This was in school though, but it was still the meanest thing anyone has ever said to me. :x
I had that exact thing said to me to!

Mine was from my Mum for the same reason.

I was once told I did not have a father (my parents are divorced and custody went to my mother).

The only thing that saved her was the fact she was four years old at the time.

Aside from that, people trying to insult my character simply make me laugh.

Well it doesn't matter because you don't have to prove anything to anyone but yourself.

Sir, you are not adequaly prepared for the internet.

Depends on the person really. Only 2 people affect me badly with their words. One because of their close relation to me and the other because I believe she's rotten inside so I find myself aghast at the kind of things that person can say sometimes.

Other than that, I'm a pretty upbeat person. I'm stern and what not but I usually don't let myself be affected too much. Unless my body does it without my permisions, agh.
